Obtaining Melee in 2016 help

It's a shame that Nintendo doesn't seem to support he competitive Melee scene. As a result it seems that people have to go to far efforts to even play the game. I don't plan on going all out competitive so I don't want to pay the obsurd prices for the game that problem are currently offering. That being said, am I totally out of luck? Or is there a different way to play this game from my childhood. I have a Wii that I'd be able to play it on, but I don't want to mod my Wii in anyway because I just got warranty renewed on it and I don't wan't to lose it (I heard that modding the Wii means they won't do repair for you anymore but I could be wrong).

So is playing Melee again under these circumstances completely out of the water?

You can get dolphin emulator on your computer an play one that. You can also use netplay and play your friends using wifi

I've heard about Dolphin Emulator. Is it completely safe to download? And would I play melee right on my computer or would I need to use an sd card or something?

Yes Dolphin is completely safe to download if you get it from the official website and it's completely free, and I think you need to download a melee iso to play it on dolphin but that is also safe and free and you can even get melee with the 20xx hack pack, and you don't need a sd card

honestly just to soft mod your wii and usb load it. playing on your pc is gonna have some lag, not great to practice on. It's nearly impossible to brick your wii, and if in the event that you did, you can buy a wii second hand for 30 bucks..

The wii is dead basically so mod it. I use nintendont to play melee and got 20XX on it.
And dolphin is safe, but you need a mayflash adapter.

Also, the mayflash adapter can be super annoying to get working on your computer. Or at least it was for me.. took ages to figure out even with guides. I'd just soft mod ur wii if i were you

I have. Mayflash adapter is easy to use. I even play pc games using joytokey
