Obscure Nintendo Titles and Characters

I'm making a list of up to 30 characters/titles for something I'm planning to do in November.

Having a problem on some characters because I'm not sure if they can be considered Obscure because they are still considered to be new games (ex. Dillon's Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai, Wonderful 101).

I already have a good number of old and obscure characters, but I need to make sure I'm not pulling anything out of my ass and calling something obscure simply because not everyone talks about it these days. (Notable Examples, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, possibly Sin & Punishment.)

Seeing as this is the Nintendo threads in a Smash Community, I think I can get some nice feedback from various fans on whether these titles are, or are not considered Obscure.

Here's the list so Far:

-Hakkun [Sutte Hakkun]
-Muddy Mole [Mole Mania]
-Bubbles [Clu Clu Land]
-Dillon [Rolling Western]
-Doshin the Giant [Doshin the Giant]
-Prince Sable [For the Frog the Bell Tolls]
-Balloon Fighters (NES and G&W) & Alice [Balloon Fighter, Balloon Fight, Balloon Kid]
-Mike Jones [Star Tropics, NES]
-Fossil Fighter [Fossil Fighter]
-Ray [Custom Robo]
-Kururin [Kuru Kuru Kururin]
-Isaac [Golden Sun]
-Mallo [Pushblock/Pushmo]
-Saki Amamiya [Sin & Punishment]
-Jill Dozer [Drill Dozer]
-ST Falcon [Battle Clash]
-Araki Hayami [1080 Snowboarding]
-Captain Rainbow/Nick [Captain Rainbow]
-Takamaru [Mysterious Murasame Castle]
-Sakura Samurai [Sakura Samurai]
-Infantry/Andy [Console Wars]
-Sukapon [Joy Mech Fight, NES]
-Chibi Robo [Chibi Robo]
-Mach Rider [Mach Rider]
-Tamagon & Devil [Devil's World]
-Demille [Tomato Adventure]
-Dion, Max and Jack [Marvelous: Another Treasure Island, SNES]
-Wonder Team/Red [Wonderful 101, Wii U]
- Donbe & Hikari [Shin Onigashima]
- Lip [Panel de Pon/Puzzle League, various]
-Starfy [Densetsu no Starfy]
-Hero [Magical Vacation]
-Barbara [Jam with the Band]
-Elite Beat Agents [Elite Beat Agents]
-Martin [Chosoju Mecha MG]
-Tempo [Harmoknight]
-Hero [Card Hero]
-Welt [Soma Bringer]
-Harry [Teleroboxer]
-Zip [FlingSmash]
-Eddy [Fluidity: Spin Cycle]
-Lolo & Lala [Adventures of Lolo]

Your Help would be greatly appreciated.

I really like the list! But I'm not sure if Isaac is obscure.
Yeah, that's why I'm asking around here.

I know this fandom has some knowledge about most of the characters on the list. Isaac being one of the most popular wanted characters for Smash since the Brawl days.

Though I don't know how much he fairs outside of the Nintendo fanbase. Same goes for more recent characters like Dillon.

Not quite what I meant when I made this thread. Was mostly referring to IPs owned by Nintendo. That said, this is a good list of 3rd Party characters from the days when Nintendo was the 'Go to Company'. Might use this for a future installment of what I'll do in November.

Some of this guys aren't really considered obscure. Ryu Hayabusa, Simon Belmont, Jim himself had his own cartoon show back then. The only people who wouldn't know him would be late 2k kids.

Right now though, I just need to get some feedback to clarify if certain characters from the first list should be considered obscure or not. Might keep this open later and have it be a sort of Obscure or Forgotten Library.

Aren't Lolo and Lala pretty much the same as the Kirby bosses Lololo and Lalala? Both games were made by HAL, as well.

They're cameo'ed in Super Star, yes. Are they the same characters...I actually don't know if the dev team sees it like that or views them as descendants or something.

They are also in Kirby's Dream Land and cameo in Triple Deluxe's Kirby Fighters as stage hazards.

This is a good list.

I'd add Isa Jo, also from Sin & Punishment.
Add Zael from The Last Story
Aeron from Pandora's Tower.
Ayumi Tachibana from Famicon Detective Club
Stanley the Bugman from Donkey Kong 3
Foreman Spike from Wrecking Crew
and Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2

I'd remove Isaac, but I'd replace him with another Golden Sun character, as Isaac is really the only remotely recognizable Golden Sun character to anyone that hasn't played the game.

I know non-Nintendo gamers (as in they might play Smash, but don't really like any of Nintendo's franchises) or they people who used to be Nintendo gamers, but they ride the Call of Duty bandwagon and ain't got time for that, who remember Golden Sun as an amazing GBA RPG. I use this as one of several dozen answers when asked what Nintendo has besides Mario/Zelda. Fortunately you don't hear this asked much recently, due to great strides on Nintendo's part to expand.

One character per franchise, as I want to represent the games themselves.

From what I've been looking up concerning Golden Sun, it seems to have a mixed identity between being mildly obscure or well known. I think I'll consider it like Earthbound where it had few titles but a good fan following and take Isaac off the list. Lolo and Lala seem to be considered Kirby characters these days so I might remove them too.

Gotta remind people that I can only pick 30 out of all of these characters.

Characters I'm sure to have on the list:

-Muddy Mole [Mole Mania]
-Lip [Panel de Pom/Puzzle League]
-Takamaru [Mysterious Murasame Castle]
-Mach Rider [Mach Rider]
-Saki Amamiya [Sin & Punishment]
-Prince Sable [For the Frog the Bell Tolls]
-Jill Dozer [Drill Dozer]
-Ray [Custom Robo]
-Mike Jones [StarTropics]
- Sukapon [Joy Mech Fight]

Characters who fall inbetween obscurity or well known:

-Isaac [Golden Sun] (seems there a good number of people who at least know the character/game)
-Starfy [Legendary Starfy] (based on number of sequels in Japan]
-Infantry/Andy [Console Wars] (see Golden Sun)
-Balloon Fighter/Alice [Balloon series] (Alice being the most obscure of the three, next to the G&W variant)
-Chibi Robo [Chibi Robo] (Recent, good number of sequels, a re-release on the Wii in NA, and a title for the 3DS e-shop)
-Barbara [Jam with the Band] (Is getting a 3DS e-shop title in japan, and even has her own hat on Mii Plaza).

Too Recent to count:

-Dillon [Rolling Western]
-Wonder Team [Wonderful 101]
-Sakura Samurai [Sakura Samurai]
-Eddy [Fluidity: Spin Cycle]
-Mallo [Pushmo]

EDIT: I might add in characters like Spike, Wart and Stanley despite being from well known franchises simply because I find them interesting characters to mention.
