... Only difference being that mine lacks pictures. D: I'll probably get some up soon. Also, keep in mind that part of this is based on common sense, the other half based on personal preference. So don't call me an idiot for including a particular character you don't want in, because I've either addressed any problems with them (I.e. Ness, Ridley) or don't have any real strong desire for them in the first place (I.e. Mii), and just feel that they're likely. Even with that considered, I'll be (pleasantly) surprised if this roster is a 100% accurate to what we actually get, so... Um, yeah.
Also, if you can't be bothered to count, it's 42 characters, including transformations. Not sure they can fit that much in? Rumor seems to point to there being 20 new characters, and I feel around 22 veterans returning is a well informed guess.
MARIO SERIES
1. Mario
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Glad to hear that he's was stronger at E for All. Probably also means that he has Dr. Mario's old stats.
2. Luigi
Status: Next-to-confirmed
Comments: Well duh. Even though a new moveset is probably in store for him, I hope he maintains some of his flamboyant gestures from Melee, ESPECIALLY since he's always been my favorite Smasher.
3. Peach
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Not so glad to hear that she got slightly nerfed, but it's not like I played as her that competitively anyway. Hell, I don't play competitively out right.
4. Bowser
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Really awesome that he can actually hold his own in Brawl, because I loved using him in Melee despite his major drawbacks. I simply like the character.
Now, who competes for the fifth slot for the Mario series? With Dr. Mario more than likely getting the boot, despite the already heavy focus on the Mario series, it'd be weird for it to go from 5 to 4 playable characters. So I've listed the three most likely, in order of preference.
5. Geno
Status: More than a possibility
Comments: SMRPG was the first RPG I ever played, so the characters from it had a huge impact on me. It's partially because of this, and partially because Geno's just a flat out awesome character that I feel he should get in. And now that Sakurai DEFINATLY knows that there's a fan base for the character, and that 3rd Party characters have the green light (though I'm hoping Nintendo buys the rights to the characters and locales from SMRPG one day from Square Enix), I can finally play as him again since 1996.
5. Fawful
Status: Possible
Comments: As the Paper Mario series has the misfortune of having no single representative for Brawl, I turn to Fawful from Mario & Luigi. While I'd want Geno in over Fawful, if the puppet doesn't make his way in, everybody's favourite psycho-green-bean-man would ease the pain. He'd probably fly around a lot and shoot all kinds of nasty stuff from his helmet.
5. Bowser Jr.
Status: Likely
Comments: I've only put him up here because he's the most likely character out of the lot, despite being nothing more than an ugly replacement for the vastly more interesting Koopalings. Unless there's a costume mode that'd allow us to play as Wendy, Iggy and co. through Bowser Jr., then I'd hate to see his debut in Brawl, though I won't deny that he 'deserves' the spot in a sense.
Yoshi
6. Yoshi
Status: Confirmed
Comments: I kinda preferred his retro look in Melee, but using his current model for Brawl simply makes more sense. His Final Smash and SNES Yoshi's Island stage are also excellent throwbacks to his earlier games.
WARIO SERIES
7. Wario
Status: Confirmed
Comments: I'm defiantly going to play as him first. He's one of Nintendo's funniest icons, and I'm glad that he's in his Wario Ware outfit to set him apart from the Mario series. I think Wario's made a name for himself just like Donkey Kong did in DKC, and it's great that Sakurai is acknowledging this.
8. Mona
Status: Likely
Comments: She's a girl, and is probably the most significant character after Wario himself in the Wario series. She'd have a unique moveset, could mimic the Wario Chopper move with her Scooter and like Midna, would help to break the 'Damsel in Distress' motif that most other Ninty girls have.
DONKEY KONG SERIES
9. Donkey Kong
Status: Confirmed
Comments: What a crappy Final Smash. D:
10. Diddy Kong
Status: Confirmed
Comments: I really wanted him in, and I'm glad that his moveset is integrating DK64 stuff like the Peanut Popguns which we haven't seen since... Erm, DK64.
11. King K. Rool
Status: Possible
Comments: Donkey Kong doesn't need K. Rool now that he has Diddy Kong, but if other series like Kirby get three reps, I feel that one of video gaming's highest selling franchises probably deserves three representatives. He'd be fairly original, with his blunderbuss and other wacky disguise-related attacks. Don't let his dull appearances in nowaday's DK games deter you; back in Rare's glory days, they put a great spin on the 'cartoony' videogame villain mold with this character... Besides, Brawl could do with more pirates.
ZELDA SERIES
12. Link
Status: Confirmed
Comments: I'll just use this space to say that I don't think Young Link should come back, though being the least offensive of the clones (ignoring Falco and Ganondorf), his return wouldn't really affect me. The main problem is that sans the Gale Boomerang, Twilight Princess Link doesn't really have any TP-related moves, which would make a heavily Wind Waker inspired moveset for Young Link seem out of place for me.
13. Zelda
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Not much to say here, other than that I congratulate Nintendo for jazzing up her hairstyle.
14. Shiek
Status: **** near confirmed, if that old interview with the Zelda directer was anything to go by
Comments: Wouldn't be surprised if Zelda's transformation into Shiek is changed from B down to her Final Smash, ala Samus. And no, Shiek not being in TP is a dumb argument for her not returning, though I won't be heartbroken if she doesn't come back.
15. Ganondorf
Status: Read above, yet even without that interview it wouldn't take a genius to figure out that he'd make a glorious comeback
Comments: He'll defiantly be back, and with a new moveset too. It'd be awesome if they integrated his twin samurai-esque swords from Wind Waker, massive sword from Twilight Princess and trident from the older games into his moveset. AND, his Final Smash will more than likely be a transformation into GANON. I can hardly wait.
Like Mario, Zelda will probably stick with 5 representatives, so here are the two likely contenders. I'd include Vaati, but I've kinda been burnt out on the idea of him for awhile. Don't really know why.
16. Tingle
Status: Very Likely
Comments: Tingle is the kind of man you either love or hate. I personally love him. The concept and everything about him just strikes me as utterly hilarious, and he's the only character other than the 'Big 3' to keep on appearing in the series (Screw King Hylrue and Impa). He's not only unique, he's deserving.
16. Midna
Status: Very Likely
Comments: Assuming they don't go with that crazy 30-something fairy man for Zelda's next candidate, I think Midna would fit in quite nicely. Brawl needs more females, and it defiantly has a focus on Twilight Princess. What better way to propel Midna's popularity and possibly get Nintendo to make her a staple of the series like Tingle than to make her a playable character? Sakurai, just don't try to give any fan service to the creepy Midna fan boys. D8
F-ZERO SERIES
17. Captain Falcon
Status: Pretty much confirmed through his icon, but he'd be pretty much confirmed even without it
Comments: FALCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON PUNCH! Just update with him already, jeez.
18. Black Shadow
Status: Possible, if slightly on the unlikely side
Comments: I don't really like Black Shadow, it's just that I felt that F-Zero deserved another rep, and my favourite character from the series got demoted to item status. No cookies for guessing who that is. ;.;
POKEMON Series
19. Pikachu
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Meh.
20. Pokemon Trainer
Status: Confirmed
Comments: As somebody who stopped playing the games after Gold & Silver, yet actually still plays the older games, Pokemon Trainer was an unexpected god send for me. He was highly deserving yet nobody could really see him 'working' well in Smash, but Sakurai proved 'em wrong. It also seems to hint to me that there aren't going to be any more playable Pokemon representatives in Brawl, which is a-okay with me. If Lucario gets in, that's fine, but if anybody after that gets in, I'll be ticked off.
21. Jigglypuff
Status: Next-to-confirmed. THNX SNAKE. 8D
Comments: I have a friend who loves spamming her roll attack. He'll probably be pleased that she's back.
22. Mewtwo
Status: Very likely
Comments: The closest thing the series has to a villain (well, a villain who would make an ideal playable character), and he was already in Melee sooooo... Just give him the same treatment Bowser's gotten and it should be swell.
STAR FOX SERIES
23. Fox
Status: Confirmed
Comment: I'm soooooooo glad he got nerfed, so now it's possible to tell apart actual fans of the character and people who just play the game WITH NO ITEMS, FOX, FINAL DESTINATION.
24. Falco
Status: Likely
Comment: I love Falco, and I hope that they integrate some... Eh, I dunno, stuff from Assualt into his moveset, assuming he gets the decloning treatment. Which considering he's like, the second main Star Fox member, (before Krystal showed up anyway), that's probably what's already happened.
25. Krystal
Status: Next-to-confirmed thanks to voice actress leak. Seriously, Nintendo sucks *** at keeping their VA's quiet.
Comment: Another female, and crazy staff magic stuff to boot. She, along with Ridley, Geno and Olimar are the remaining characters unconfirmed I absolutely want in Brawl. :D
MOTHER SERIES
26. Lucas
Status: Confirmed
Comment: I'm glad he's in and all, and I vastly prefer him over Ness in terms of personality ('cause he like, actually talks in Mother 3), but I still feel that the two's likeness to each other isn't justification to get rid of Ness, and I'm not even 100% convinced that Ness is out. But I'll save that for next.
27. Ness
Status: Unlikely at this point, but like hell I'll admit defeat and say he's out.
Comment: Part of my desire for Ness to stay is that I love Mother 2 and Mother 3 equally. Mother 3 has far more story and better developed characters, yet Mother 2 is just so... Psychologically engaging. There's some seriously creepy mind stuff in Earthbound that Mother 3, or at least the final version of Mother 3 (some of you may know what I'm talking about. HINT: Youtube video.) doesn't even get close to replicating. Plus, Lucas getting a **** similar special moveset to Ness isn't a total deconfirmation; even if you haven't played Earthbound, by his trophy in Melee you should know that Ness doesn't actually know half the PSI moves he uses in the first two Smashes. Lucas’ case is even weirder; he doesn’t even learn PK Freeze, which has specifically been given to him in Brawl. He does however know PK Flash, which makes the whole thing even stranger. It’s a long shot, but the change could be there to give Ness some of his own PSI moves, with Flash working differently than it did in Melee. Lucas getting Ness' old special moveset (and notice that he has an entirely different 'normal' moveset, along with the Snake Rope for a grab. And don't tell me that they could do that for Ness, because Snake Ropes aren't in Mother 2.) Ness could be the more physical PSI user, partially relying on the baseball bat and Yo-yo that Lucas appears to be missing in his moveset. Hell, he could use different types of PSI Rockn’. I'm not sure how it’d work out, but Ike is vastly different to Marth in Brawl despite their in-game similarities, so Sakurai could cut the same kind of slack here.
Now, if Ness doesn't get in, I still want there to be another Mother character. It'd almost defiantly be a Mother 3 character if it's not Ness, so without further or do...
27. The Masked Boy
Status: Very likely if Ness isn't in, possible if Ness IS in.
Comment: Ahahahahaha, what a major spoiler of a character. *Ahem.*
KIRBY SERIES
28. Kirby
Status: Confirmed
Comment: It'd be cute if he has the 'Puyo, puyo!' lines he constantly yelled out in the anime.
29. Meta Knight
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Well I don't care much for him, his inclusion did give the team a good enough reason to include the Halbard, possibly the most bad *** of Kirby levels. The music for the stage is also really memorable.
30. King Dedede
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Dedede was one of my most wanted characters, and it's a dream come true that he's in. Though he was extremely likely anyway. Anyhow, I hope his English VA like Meta Knight isn't the god awful 4Kids VA, and somebody who can accurately replicate his Japanese voice, which is hilarious as all hell.
METROID SERIES
31. Samus
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Fun Fact: Until the first trailer for Brawl came out, most of my friends assumed Samus was either a robot or a man. D:
32. Zero-Suit Samus
Status: Confirmed
Comment: An interesting way to beef up the Metroid roster, and it proves that aside from Ridley, most Metroid games have a very lonely and isolated aesthetic.
33. Ridley
Status: Very likely
Comment: You're not an idiot if you think that he might become a boss, but you're an idiot if you WANT him to become a boss. D:<
FIRE EMBLEM SERIES
34. Ike
Status: Confirmed
Comment: I like Ike. :D
35. Marth
Status: Very likely
Comment: I admittedly thought that Ike was meant to serve as a replacement for Marth and Roy, but after word got out that his moveset and stats are almost entirely different, there's no way that's the case. Yeah, Roy's boned, but nobody outside of the Smash community liked him anyway, and he had little to no relevance to the overall series. Marth's the first lord in the series, he's appeared more than once in the series, he's one of the most popular lords in Japan and he's finally making his way outside of Japan on the DS. There's no way you can convince me that Marth won't return.
ICE CLIMBER SERIES
36. Ice Climbers
Status: Confirmed
Comment: NO PIT SHOULD BE THE ONLY RETRO CHARACTER BECAUSE I WOULD VASTLY PREFER THEM TO TAKE OUT AN ORIGINAL MOVESET FROM MELEE'S ROSTER RATHER THAN THE 5 MILLION CLONE CHARACTERS.
GAME & WATCH SERIES
37. Mr. Game & Watch
Status: Next-to-confirmed via the magic of the icon theory. Whether you agree with it or not, you can't deny that 'Game & Watch' goes in-between Ice Climbers and Fire Emblem in that list.
Comment: READ ABOVE I DO NOT KNOW WHO GAME & WATCH IS THEREFORE HE SHOULD NOT BE IN. D:<
KID ICARUS SERIES
38. Pit
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Even though I just ranted about the stupidity of not wanting the Ice Climbers in, I'll admit that it was a dumb idea to put them in Melee instead of Pit.
ANIMAL CROSSING SERIES
I doubt AC will get any playable rep. If it does, great. But all the interesting reps are already deconfirmed, so there's not a whole tone of possibilities to look forward to if we got say, an Animal Crossing Human.
Now, the next two franchises I post I feel are both competing for one franchise spot, so it's either one or the other. Not too bad, because both are really likeable and deserving franchises.
PIKMIN SERIES
39. Captain Olimar
Status: Very likely
Comment: Pikmin is a failry recent series, but it's popular, unique and fun, something I found noticeably absent in most Nintendo games in the GCN-era. There's limitless opportunities with this character.
MEGA MAN SERIES
39. Mega Man
Status: Very likely
Comment: He got his start on the NES, and the vast amount of his games are on Ninty systems. If he shows up, it better either be the 'classic' Mega Man or X. Legends is kinda obscure in the overall series, and the later stuff like Battle Network just shows that Capcom whores out their franchises too much.
TOUCH GENERATION SERIES
40. Mii
Status: Possible
Comment: Yes, I've just suggested myself for Brawl. *Roll on drum snare* I could see this happening before the Pictochat stage, and now that Sakurai's involving Nintendo's 'touch' mythology into the game, the next logical step would be playable Mii's. Like the level creator, it'd be another form of customizability the series is known for.
METAL GEAR SERIES
41. Snake
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Unexpected, and while at first I was kinda annoyed that the first 3rd Party character in the series didn't have much to do with Nintendo, over time I got over it. Besides, the codec conversations are absolutely hilarious, and the series has enough wacky stuff in it to fit into the Smash universe.
SONIC SERIES
41. Sonic
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Defiantly the most deserving 3rd Party character, both because of historical relevance and popularity. I'm also glad that they're leaning towards more classic stuff for the character (Springs, old sound bytes, THE SUPER PEEL-OUT FROM SONIC CD AS A TAUNT 8D), but stuff like Live & Learn is still awesome. Then again, Sonic Adventure 2 was the last console Sonic game that really meant anything to me, but that's neither here nor there. Now I just wanna see his stage.
And that's my roster. Nothing TOO unworldly in it, and tries to give most franchises equal representation. Anyhow, tell me what you think!
Also, if you can't be bothered to count, it's 42 characters, including transformations. Not sure they can fit that much in? Rumor seems to point to there being 20 new characters, and I feel around 22 veterans returning is a well informed guess.
MARIO SERIES
---
1. Mario
Status: Confirmed
Comments: Glad to hear that he's was stronger at E for All. Probably also means that he has Dr. Mario's old stats.
---
2. Luigi
Status: Next-to-confirmed
Comments: Well duh. Even though a new moveset is probably in store for him, I hope he maintains some of his flamboyant gestures from Melee, ESPECIALLY since he's always been my favorite Smasher.

Comment: You're not an idiot if you think that he might become a boss, but you're an idiot if you WANT him to become a boss. D:<
--------
FIRE EMBLEM SERIES
---
34. Ike
Status: Confirmed
Comment: I like Ike. :D
---
--------
ICE CLIMBER SERIES
---
--------
GAME & WATCH SERIES
---
--------
KID ICARUS SERIES
---
38. Pit
Status: Confirmed
Comment: Even though I just ranted about the stupidity of not wanting the Ice Climbers in, I'll admit that it was a dumb idea to put them in Melee instead of Pit.
--------
ANIMAL CROSSING SERIES
---
I doubt AC will get any playable rep. If it does, great. But all the interesting reps are already deconfirmed, so there's not a whole tone of possibilities to look forward to if we got say, an Animal Crossing Human.
--------
Now, the next two franchises I post I feel are both competing for one franchise spot, so it's either one or the other. Not too bad, because both are really likeable and deserving franchises.
--------
PIKMIN SERIES
---
39. Captain Olimar
Status: Very likely
Comment: Pikmin is a failry recent series, but it's popular, unique and fun, something I found noticeably absent in most Nintendo games in the GCN-era. There's limitless opportunities with this character.
--------
MEGA MAN SERIES
---
39. Mega Man
Status: Very likely
Comment: He got his start on the NES, and the vast amount of his games are on Ninty systems. If he shows up, it better either be the 'classic' Mega Man or X. Legends is kinda obscure in the overall series, and the later stuff like Battle Network just shows that Capcom whores out their franchises too much.
--------
TOUCH GENERATION SERIES
---
--------
METAL GEAR SERIES
---
--------
SONIC SERIES
---
--------
And that's my roster. Nothing TOO unworldly in it, and tries to give most franchises equal representation. Anyhow, tell me what you think!
