OK, so I had this great idea:

I'll give you a character, and you LITERALLY throw your opinions as to why they should/should not be included on the playable roster of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
When I feel I've gathered enough opinions, I'll write down the most valid point for and against each character underneath their entry in this first post, and move on to the next character.
Also, I hope this thread will help to clear any misconceptions any of you might have about a certain character, and their right to be included.

Any suggestions for characters to be argued about are welcome, although I will only branch out into veterans and 3rd party characters if we run out of ideas. Also, I will be concentrating on the characters that draw the most controversy.

So, without further ado:

Wind Waker Link

Suggestions:
King Dedede, Ridley, Sukapon.

I think this thread is going to fail...each character has their own thread.

IMO, WW Link would be a lousy excuse for a character. We have 1 Link already, move aside for brand new characters.
(But, he's better than YL)

Can anyone truly argue whether or not ANY character should or should not be in Brawl...?

Hmm, you should of spiced up this topic by starting off with King Dedede; I'd like to hear "good" reasons as to why he shouldn't be in.

Of course they can! They should! Isn't that really the whole point of these forums?

And to those naysayers, my goal for this thread is to attempt to gather the best arguments for and against characters in one place, in an orderly fashion, to help people to understand why so many people dislike their favourite character, or why so many people are rooting for a character they consider to be ridiculous. Isn't that a cause worth fighting for?

Of course, it's all based on assumptions...

...and also, some characters may be popular, but in the end Sakurai's bias determines the characters

OJBECTION!

Wind Waker Link should not be in Brawl simply because I don't want to hear all the whining if he is.

Thank you.

Wind Waker Link seems logical. He's been in quite a few games. Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass are both best-sellers aren't they? He's had a few GBA games aswell. With so many games, it'd be easy to make a unique moveset, so he does not have to be a clone of Link. He was on the poll 3 times I think? I'm pretty sure he had some mentions... I don't see much standing in his way of making it in the playable roster.

...*suggests Ridley and Sukapon*

Holy crap this thread wins >.>

Wind Waker Link:
Sakurai will most likely add another representative for the Legend of Zelda franchise, that representative will most likely be Wind Waker Link. Minda? Perhaps, but Wind Waker Link is up there with the chances.

His moveset wouldn't have to be all-too similar to Link's... if any of you have played the game "Wind Waker", you could easily think of some new ideas for what WWL's specials could become.

I'll be checking out this thread often ;)
It'd be sad if it gets closed... I truely like it.

I think the Y. Link idea should be gotten rid of altogether, but if they have to find a replacement for him, WW Link is a good idea. He could use the Skull Hammer, Grappling Hook as a B-up tether recovery, or Deku Leaf as his B-Up. He could use the Wind Waker for many things- a taunt, a B-Up whirlwind teleport move, any sort of B-Move wind related move, his Final Smash could call in the two wind gods to make cyclones, there are many possibilities. He could somehow incorporate Iron Boots- maybe he could do a kick while wearing the Iron Boots.

Nice to see you all enjoy my thread. I'm sure I'll have gathered the opinions I need on Wind Waker Link in the next couple of hours, but alas, I live in England, it's 2AM and I have to get up at 8 for work (and the new update, of course). Before I go, I'll add a short note to the initial post for character suggestions.

Keep 'em coming!

Against Young Link:
The issue I have here is, regardless of what form of graphics he uses, a Young Link character is completely redundant due to the fact that he is a second Link. We already have Link in the game, who more than suffices to represent each of his incarnations in his series; there is no more call for him to have two spots in the roster, even with different appearances and move sets, than there is for Doctor Mario to return de-cloned, or for Paper Mario to be added as a non-clone. Clone or no, normal graphics or cell-shaded, those are irrelevant. From my perspective, it all comes down to the fact that, with such a character, you have two copies of the same person in the game, which to me seems completely ridiculous and an utter waste of a character.

WW link might not be in simply because he's already represented, the twilight princess look was used to represent all iterations of Link because it was the most polished and it fit with Brawl's style. WW Link is still a Link, no different from OOT or The original pink haired lad himself.

On the subject of art style, Sakurai is imaginative enough to make it work, but he's done a great job of unifying diverse styles so far, why ruin just for a character that's already represented in Link himself.

As for those who think that Game&Watch got in Melee (and if you follow the icon trends, Brawl) the WW Link's cel shaded can be excused. Actuality is the contrary, Mr. G&W doesn't have a different style he has no style, no lighting, no shading, no textures. Whereas cel shading is an entirely different style which uses opaque blotches of color instead of gradients to do lighting, with oversaturated colors.

And WW Link isn't a Young link replacement, young link was a seven year younger version of OOT Link, and last time I checked there was no such direct link (no pun intended) between WW Link and his Tp incarnation. And with the strange Chibi proportions used in Windwaker, his age is nigh impossible to compare to the other games.

To note something else of interest, while I'm on the subject; look closely at the sicker update:

As you can see, the stickers were all artwork directly from previous games: Strikers Mario, Balloon fighter's cover art, the wrestling bird this from thousand year door (could go on, but I think you get the point). They were all artwork released for previous games, nothing new, apart from one:

That bottle is better quality then the melee trophy, I realized I'd never that pic before as I thought further upon it. Granted it might be from some artwork I hadn't seen, but a thourough search turned up fruitless (OOT, Melee, note the corners). If anyone's seen it from it's original context, I'd like to see it; it's quality though almost seems as if it's from a Brawl character, and WW Link didn't get any Lon Lon milk ;).

Nothing conclusive just interesting.

The stickers don't really prove or disprove anything because there are hundreds of stickers

As for the cel-shading in Brawl, there is something I want to point out about Ike...

Aren't the cutscenes in the latest Fire Emblem games aren't the cutscenes and such in cel-shading? If not, then don't mind my mindless banter.

As for Wind Waker Link, why not? I can see a unique moveset for him. However, I wouldn't mind if they removed Young Link to make room for more unique Zelda characters such as Midna, Vaati, or Skull Kid (though if that last one is in we kinda need YL ).

I see WW Link as inevitable, because he represents half of the currently-running LoZ.
Given the vast potential moveset options, I don't see how he could be a clone unless Sakurai had run out of time, which is unlikely, considering everything we know about Brawl.
Suggestions: Captain Olimar, Balloon Fighter.

^^ Yes. The cutscenes in PoR and Radiant Dawn are cel-shaded.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but cel-shading requires an overall game engine to execute properly. I don't think it's feasible to have a single character being rendered differently than all the other game objects. I'm all for a Wind Waker themed Young Link, but I don't think he will be toon shaded if he makes it into the game.
