Alright, after getting ***** at a recent tournament, DJ Mirror suggested I get some advice from the Falcon boards. He took some videos:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqfBoEsIJR8 - vs Samus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=158atXnlzH0 - vs Marth

This is the first time I really watched videos of myself playing other people, and I already see tons of problems. Things like RANDOM spot dodges that lead to me getting hit, spot dodges vs. Marth to Tipper-To-The-Face, stupid SDs, dash attacking, jumping out of shield as soon as an enemy approaches me, etc.

Aside from the obvious, I'd like to see what you guys think I should be doing differently. Any help is much appreciated!

(Johns: I started playing Melee last summer)

I play that exact samus all the time and i can tell you that you should approach with nair and knee alot. If he is above you Uair him every time. You should be more aggresive against that certain samus.

Against marth you shouldn't be on that map to begin with.

You need a goal. Especially in that marth match. It can be character based or player based, but you need something. Fish for grabs, space nair, platcamp, or something. With experience you'll figure out which goals are good against which characters/players/playstyles. When you have a goal you can evaluate how well it's working and if you are losing change goals.

Having a goal is not "the ultimate guide to winning", but it's a starting point, and gets you thinking about your play which is important.

Try not to get grabbed so much. For CF this basically means not shielding, and if you have to shield roll instead of spot dodging. Not only is it faster, but it moves you somewhere. You can also use attacks to avoid grabs but this is risky. Useful antigrab attacks are sideB, downB, fsmash, knee.

- work on your spacing
- there were a lot of times where you attacked or grabbed where your opponent was standing at the time and got punished for it.instead of attacking where they are, attack where you think they'll be like behind where theyre standing or above or something.i guarantee you'll hit them more often

^ that and stop using your second jump to attack when theyre on the ground for the same reasons as above.its an easy DD grab
