Now that I think about it, a Casual Brawl mode could've been good

Sakurai had said in the Iwata interview that he wanted SSBB to be different from Wii Sports & I understand that. But a secondary mode designed for that extremely casual newbie crowd wouldn't hurt. Afterall, Sakurai also said he wanted the game to appeal to everyone & Wii Sports seems to shown that not everyone likes buttons apparently, so why not add something they could understand? How I see it working is that the character's movements (run, jump, recovery) are handled by the AI while the noob player simply waves the remote for Shake Smash attacks.

Of course this wouldn't possibly appeal to us gamer-types would it? Well since the only attacks involved are Smash attacks, no basics, specials or grabs in sight, they could implement characters in that mode that don't have enough moveset potential to work in the normal modes & it would take less time to program them. Assist Trophies like Little Mac, Lyn or Waluigi could now be playable with Casual Brawl. This would make the mode more interesting to the experienced gamers because they may want to try out the characters not normally available.

I don't think casuals would even like it.

In a fighting game, its all about a sense of control. That's the reason why noobs don't like playing pros. You get them in combos... the second they feel they can't move or control their character they aren't having fun anymore.

That's part of Smash's charm in the first place, that all the special moves are handled by B and not complicated inputs (like qcf, etc). Anyone can pick up the game and immediately be doing special moves.

Its already a very noob friendly game. Why else would so many noobs call it a button masher (even though they are so beyond wrong here)?

I learned something tonight...

Anyway, agreed with that post. Not even casuals would like it, a wagglefest of smash attacks would be more boring than the general wagglefest Wii games that are out right now.

To be honest, I can't even think of a way to make the game more casual-friendly than it already is.

Who in their right mind would enjoy waving a stick around and watching characters fight half-assed?
