Okay, im going to try to go about this without starting a flame war, but even though i am super excited for smash 4 there are a few worries i cant seem to get out of my head, and most of them have to do with it being underwhelming.

1. It seems to have no new form of attack. Melee added in the side special, which added a unique move to every character, and brawl added the final smash, and although not used competitively, it was a fun addition which added some awesome moves for characters that you would turn on just to have fun with your friends. Do you think that them not adding anything new attack wise is a bad thing?

2. the short story mode. I remain one of the few fans of the subspace emissary, and from what we know about smash 4's story mode it just seems like a step back. If it means that the game will be more balanced etc. its not necessarily a bad thing, its just my personal preference that i like to have something extra to do besides regular matches.
3. Little amount of newcomers. Okay, so i am not 100% sure about this, but based on interviews with sakurai it just seems like he thinks the roster is already reaching its limit, and will only add a few new characters while cutting others. Although it will make each character more unique, it will still be underwhelming that there wont seem to be much "new" besides some mechanics. What do you think?

Either way, i am super excited about smash 4 and will probably enjoy it for year to come.

I just want the story mode to be somewhat like Melee's except slightly more fleshed out and also cinematic.
I fell in love with the reveal trailers and I want to see more.

Pretty much this. o.o

Everything seems to be going on the right track, so I honestly can't think of much else I want them to do.

I definitely see your point on 1, but do we even know anything about story mode or the newcomers. From what I can tell, all we do know about story mode is that it won't be as long as the SSE. And I'm getting the opposite read about newcomers. It seems to me he's trying not to cut any veterans and wants a sizable roster. But like you said, I'm still excited for Smash 4 and look forward to every reveal.

I would say new features are not nearly as important as refinement of existing features. What more could they add to Smash that would be more compelling than what there already is?

Besides, we already know that we're getting a major new feature, two simultaneous games, with some sort of character customisation. This alone is very exciting. What more "new features" do you need?

EDIT: Also, we have nowhere near enough information to suggest there is no new form of attack.

Dude, the game was revealed about a month ago. We barely know anything about the game, maybe there still a secret new attack that hasn't been revealed yet, who knows? We just have to wait

this is natural. the first game was made so they can get their feet wet. melee came along and added a lot of things the first game lacked, which was ALOT. when brawl came along, there wasn't much that brawl could add.

its like stacking trash in a trash can. the higher the trash heap is, the harder it is to put more trash on it.... hahah you know what im talking about?

What if Story Mode had a different plot and a few differing levels depending on the character you pick?
I could see a story mode that's different for every character, but eventually converges until every character meets into a huge good/bad battle.

Thing is, that would kind of make it like one big, seperated Subspace Emissary. As long as the plot/s is/are improved in comparison to it, as well as making good use of Nintendo content in the storyline, then I'll be happy with that kind of Adventure Mode.

Don't get me wrong, I would much prefer if the plot and grunts and everything was much more Nintendo-esque.

The main plot behind the SSE was good, but the cutscenes weren't very well done. (it rarely explains why certain characters are where they are, few scenes had any emotion, and sometimes what they meant wasn't very clear) the backround didn't have enough of a Nintendo feel to it. It was bland, and the design of the levels weren't similar to anything from other Nintendo games. (DK and Samus being introduced in a jungle and futuristic level wasn't enough, the designs were bland) And not to mention they need more enemies from other Nintendo games, and they could also work objects, weapons and power ups from other Nintendo games as well, like they did with Melee. (the Underground Maze is a great example, it looked like a combination of several temples from OOT, just a bit simplified, and the enemies are all from OOT as well)

What about each characters stages in the story being similar to their own game?

I personally hope we see more of a Melee approach to events and single player mode events. There was SO MUCH to do in Melee single player wise it was crazy, like getting those announcements, or doing the difficult things like going through Very Hard All-Star for that Mew trophy. I feel like a lot of the gameplay in Brawl went in to the SSE, which was unfortunately very repetitive. Too much of the same thing.

One thing I did think was cool were the boss fights in Brawl though. Those were neat.

I want them big important game mechaneic because in fighting games i enjoy learning new things for each charater and something smash doesn't really have. It would be a disapointment if they didn't add anything.

I'm really scared thinking about how character customization will go down. I trust Sakurai not to focus the game design around making custom avatars (generic anime people boooo! Miis booooo!) and making it forced. If anything, I think it's custom movesets or 'changing directions' for all characters.

Does anyone think a meter system would be cool and provide a lot of strategy and different attacks for characters? This has been a staple for fighting games like Street Fighter for a while now. Only if it adds something to Smash and doesn't take too significant of a chunk out of game data.
