Not good anymore? Or just a few bad days?

I just finished playing for about an hour, and I realized that my win rate was less than 1/4 of all the matches I played, including For Glory and against bots. Now that Paragon is coming up, I have been playing much more often so I can be on top of my game, but the past few days have had similar results.

I've had these days occasionally before, but never in succession, and usually just attributed it to an off day. Now, though, it's starting to bug me. Are the average players just getting better, as well as bots? Or, does your skill really deteriorate that much if you don't pay attention? This is kind of a rant, but at the same time: I'd like to know other people's opinions on this.

Just a bad day. I have been terrible on FG for a day, but after that, I just started destroying 74% of people I play against

I used to have this issue in Melee. The root cause of it for me was not being self-aware of my obvious mistakes and bad habits, then taking the steps to actually fix them quickly. Playing bad people and bots can also develop bad habits which high level players prey on.

It's pretty easy in any smash game to get into auto-pilot mode or get into the rhythm of thinking you are actually good and are improving. But you need to be realistic and critical about what you actually need to improve on, constantly try to optimize some part of your game and spot glaring weaknesses.

Having said all that there are times when you just get into a bad string of luck or you can't play to your best. It's a mental thing and it can be compounding, so take a break and come back. More often than not after a break you will find that you are playing better than ever.

On different days or even at different times my win rate can fluctuate from about 10% to 90%. It all depends on the day. If your feeling down about it, it's best to take a break and come back later. It helps to keep you from getting too discouraged. Maybe you could even cheer yourself up with the games other features like stage builder and destroying level 5 CPUs (it's more fun than it sounds).

Destroying level 5 cpus does have its merits as far as making you feel good.

It happens. Just take a break. I took a break for about 4 months when I hit a cold spell, and it was just what I needed.

The general consensus is basically take a break, even when you're practicing its really easy burn out and eventually you don't really pay attention to what you're doing. What I do to improve is look at replays of matches I lost to see what I would do differently. I also look at videos on a specific character and I learn some pretty awesome tricks! Do get too discouraged, it happens to everybody! ^^
