New to playing Melee competitively and want to start attending tournaments but i am confused about stage banning.
When u choose to ban a stage is that specific stage banned the entire set or is it only banned for that one round?
sorry if this has been answered somewhere else I just wanna make sure i fully understand the rules.
thanks :D

It's banned for the whole set.

If you're playing a Best of 3, that stage is unplayable for all 3. Same for Best of Five and, in Europe, Best of 7 (they go that high for Finals).

In Grand Finals, where there is a chance of 2 sets being played, when the second set begins between those two players they re-choose their bans.

The reason Grand Finals can go to 2 sets is because we run a Double Elimination Bracket.
This means that someone who lost once, and got put into the Losers Bracket, will eventually HAVE to meet up with someone who has never lost the entire tournament (hence is still in the Winners Bracket).

When the two of them play, but the Losers Bracket player wins the first set, then that technically knocks the Winners Bracket player into the Losers Bracket. So then they have to play the next set, so one of them can get knocked out (because at that point one of them will have to lose, and will have been eliminated twice, hence, Double Elimination)

yeah you might have already known that but just in case.
