Noob Question: Switching Default Controllers?

Can someone please help me out, how do you set the gamecube controller as a permanent controller? I don't know how to switch it off the wiimote, all I can do is change the button configurations for them all...?

EDIT: I have an offbrand gc controller thats why it wont let me use it, it doesnt even show up. I guess this game doesn't let you use offbrand GC controllers thats dumb : (

Just plug in a gamecube and as long as there are no other controlls in the game will register it for you

I use an offbrand, and it works fine.
