Noob question for Ultimate 2 player

Folks - tried getting an answer to this on the Nintendo site, but did not find a definitive one. Can my daughters fight each other (using 2 different Joy-Cons) on a single Switch, without going online? They like 2 player fighting games, but are too young for Mortal Kombat and the like, and I would prefer to keep them away from the joys of online gaming. Thanks in advance from a noob parent!

Yes! You can use two separate joycons and fight offline.
There's a gamemode simply called "Smash" that is used for local play.

Yea you just have to make sure that both controllers are connected to the switch. Then you can go into smash mode. Once you do this both your daughters need to move their joycon around and then it will show that they're playing. All they have to do is choose a stage, a character, and then they can fight!
