No Cutscenes = No Story Mode? I don't think so!

I found on the net that the very most of Smash fans are disappointed by the lack of a story/quest/adventure mode.
That's not what Sakurai said. He said there will be no cinematic cutscenbes like in brawl. But this doesn't mean there will be not another way to tell a story by using the ingame engine. Those of you that are fan of Animal Crossing might know about the ministories among the main chars in the game, that are explained just by dialogues. Now, if you just put some NPC to talk to by pressing UP in the background of the story mode, it could work the same.
Even without that thought, just think of the remastered Ducktales that, despite its HD lifting is still using old school cutscenes, like before the Playstation revolutioned the videogame industry by filling every game of full motion videos to compensate the roughness of ingame graphic and to show the great capability to store data of CDs compared to cartdriges. Now ingame graphic is so much better than those full motion videos that the music video "Californication" looks like retro'. Plus, I noticed by the screencaps that the characters are more expressive now. Ergo: making brief cutscenes with the ingame graphic is possible.

Obviously the NPC would talk (through voice or text) and the playable chars would answer by expressions or by options.

Funnily enough, the writers (most especially the translators) at Nintendo have done quite a few dialogues between characters, too bad they're under wraps at the Treehouse and mostly the product of hypothetical discussions that occurred during the employee's in house Smash tournaments, which we will never get to see ever. Basically it's official fanfic, lolololololololololol.
They do have rules for each character, though, especially when translating, and the only one they mentioned that absolutely is not to have dialogue outside of Charles Martinet's soundbytes is Mario. He's not to say a thing!
Other than that, pretty much everyone has dialogue and outlined structure to if they were to say something.
More than any 'story' mode, I'd be glad if they had a 'fanservice' mode, and no, I don't mean scantily clad Smashers, I mean showing scenes of interaction between, say, Marth and Zelda <3
Err, how about a more relatable one? We've already seen the awesome friendship between Lucas and Pokemon Trainer, how about meaningful relationships with pretty much every character?
That's what I'd want out of Smash, more than any 'story'.

It might work. Yes, it would at least be better than Melee's Adventure Mode.

As long as it's not like PlayStation All Stars story mode. Still images with dialogue. *shudder*

Look the reason of story mode getting kicked is idiotic all because he wants the scenes to be banned from youtube aka hew ants people to figure out for them themselves

And the adventure mode is going to be like melee again and I'm extremely happy about that

And i hate too tick you guys off i did not like subspace emissary that much i prefered melees adventure mode

I'd rather think that Sakurai wanted there to be a more meaningful reward, exactly like he stated in the interview, and he felt like since the cutscenes are watchable anywhere on the internet without earning them through the game, it's not quite worth it.
I agree with you on the last two sentences, except for a few certain character interactions. It was kinda fanservice, very very bland fanservice.

Well, on that point of view it makes sense.
I hope it means this time he will concentrate in making the adventure amusing for what is it and not for any reward.
I told you what would make it: A very lot of random factors (weather, map locations, enemies..) scrambled every time, that would make you curious to see how they will be assembled every time.

He just didn't want people spoiling the story, which happens in every game with cutscenes. And mirroring makes it nigh impossible to ban crap from Youtube, that's how all the crappy Naruto AMV's, episodes, etc. thrive.

As am I. SSE was way too confusing to follow and didn't have much depth. Bosses literally came out of nowhere and didn't make sense.

And i hate too tick you guys off i did not like subspace emissary that much i prefered melees adventure mode

SSE was a terrible story. Too many plotholes, too little development behind characters or enemies, etc.

The problem of SSE is it was taking itself too seriously.
If it was a nonsensical hilarious story, more focused on the parody side, it would have been better maybe.

Well i can agree i diden't exactly say he wants no one to ruin it for people who want to find out on they're own

But anyway im just glad were going back to melees type of adventure mode i wonder if you still get multiple bosses in ssb4 adventure mode

By the way idea on how that works certain characters activate different boss battles

I hope we do get bosses, although Sakurai seems hellbent on removing all traces of fanservice or spectacularity from the game.

Like others have said, he doesn't want the story to be spoiled.

I like the fact that we might get a Melee styled Adventure Mode as I found more replay value from that rather than the SSE.

When Sakurai announced the SSE, I didn't have too many high hopes. It was kinda fun, but I wish some characters had bigger roles (Luigi and Ness for example; Sonic, Wolf, Jigglypuff, and Toon Link are understandable) and I wish the SSE's world was a bunch of Nintendo areas connected in one place instead of what we got in the end. It's because of this that I like Melee's Adventure Mode more and was ecstatic when I heard that there was no SSE-type story mode in SSB4.

All we know for sure about the single-player campaign in Smash 4 is that it will not feature cutscences. For all we know, it could be similar to Brawl's adventure mode, sans the story.

I really hope Smash 4's adventure mode will not be like Melee's; it was way too linear, in mine opinion. I am hoping Smash 4's adventure mode will feature a world map like Brawl's adventure mode--only this time, the map will feature actual Nintendo worlds instead of a made up world. I would also like to be able to choose between various alternate paths as opposed to a single path; for instance, the campaign could begin at a different location, depending on the character you chose (if you chose Mario or Princess Toadstool, the campaign would begin in Mushroom Kingdom. If you chose Link or Zelda, it would begin in Hyrule. If you chose Pit, it would begin in Skyworld. And so on). The stages in the campaign could also have different routes that will affect which way you go on the world map (kind of like Super Mario World for the SNES).

There is so much more I can think of, but I think I will leave off with that.

Okaydokey, I just thought of this after revisiting Uprising again:

What if he indeed lays down with cutscenes, BUT, he corporates character interaction to the actual gameplay, like in Uprising?

As in character banter going on (MAYBE) like in Uprising. We could have text somewhere showing what each character says.

This basically prompts people to play the game more in order to get better experience and this time if the "adventure mode" is more laid-out well, then of course people would play it through. + No cutscenes to flow to the internet, unless you don't own the game and want to watch the Let's Plays or similar.

Just something I thought.

Hmm...okay! Kind of like a strange balance between Melee and Brawl's? Hmm...because yeah Melee's felt too unimportant, but Brawl's felt too important where it really wasn't... Was anyone else annoyed that adventure mode turned into a platformer beat em up that went on for much longer than it needed to? The cutscenes were nice but...not worth it I guess! Least that's how I felt. Oh and of course I thought it was pretty boring that I had to go to "The Lake" instead of Hyrule or the Mushroom Kingdom! So perhaps this new adventure mode can have Melee styled levels of traveling the lands, but with some nice Brawl Boss fights and multiplayer! Yeah~ something like that anyway!

I wouldn't be surprised if we see Opening & Ending scenes and text in-between.. maybe a final boss encounter cut-scene?
