How do I makes nicknames that appear above my character's head in-game like in previous titles?

No real excuses for that, just a terrible decision to remove them. Hoping those'll be on the Wii U version.

It makes perfect sense if you ask me, the 3DS is a more personal system than a home console, so you're just playing as the name you set your system to. Why would you even want nicknames when you're the only player?

Because I'd like to have them online were I'll still be playing against tons of people.

You still have a name for that, though.

The point's that you're the only player in your system, since only one person is using that thing at a time, only one name is needed, and the name in your console that you use for pretty much every single thing on the 3DS does the perfect job.

You have to go through tons more effort to change your name and you don't have a nice backlog of them if you like different names for different characters.
