... and I am no different ;)

Im very new to the SSB games, and the only live opponents avaliable to me (playing vs computer opponents aint really fun and probably not a good training either) insist on playing ALL matches on "Mushroom Kingdom" .. the stage with the 2 moving platforms and random giant bullets flying into the castle ...

Now first I think that stage is totally ******** with way too many luck factors, and second those people I play against spend most of the time running and jumping away, shoot some random projectiles followed by more running.

They insist of playing that stage because they say "its the only balanced one" :dizzy: ... imho its just the only stage they dont get utterly dominated because they can run away all the time. Not that I have trouble beating them in the long run, but can anyone recommend me some matching character+strategy to truly show them how **** (and easily abuseable) that stage is?

One really bad (and good in your case) thing you can do is to go Fox and to Waveshine someone into the wall. You'll probably want to look it up in the All terms sticky, but basically, it's a way of using his down-B to push them into a wall, and before they can get a chance to do anything (shield, attack, ect) you hit them again with the shine, which you do over and over and over til they can die from one hit. Very evil :p

Or you could pick a character to be campier than they are. Pick Falco, Jump and fire two lasers over the central divider. Keep doing this so they cant easily approach you. And once they do, you can just combo the **** out of them

And if you're not proficient enough yet to combo them to hell, try rapid jabs against a wall sometime :)

Thanks for the quick input ... I already found out those walls can be deadly to be squished against. But my problem is not fending them off when they approach me - they DONT approach me. Instead they just run away all game trying to avoid me while beating on each other to get kills. (usually 3 or 4 player FFA)

P.S.: they also tried ganging up on me a few times, but that actually resulted in a better total score for me because I could actually grab some of them and toss them out of the stage.

tell your friends that their douches =P

Also, tell them that the only tournament legal (thus they must be fair) stages are:

Pokemon Stadium, Final Destination, Battlefield, Kirby64, Fountain of dreams, and Mute City.

Since you are new to the game I must assume you haven't unlocked Final Destination yet. This is my favorite stage anyway... If you have trouble unlocking it then by all means refer to my guide. You can click on my banner to get there.

What character do you play?
Fox might be good for you. Rapid jabs, shine, laser, aaaaaand he can run fast :D

Learn how to short hop laser if you don't already know. If you want to piss off your friends, pick fox and spam laser while running away the whole time (*note, if someone else knocks someone flying and you tag em with a laser while they're on their way off the screen, you get credit for the kill). If you're playing with items on, fox's speed is also a major asset -- you get to items faster and thus pick up more of em.

If that gets boring for you, switch to falco (or maybe samus) and again use projectiles, but now you don't have to run away -- falco's laser (when short hopped) can often pin your opponent down allowing you to approach and actually get some fighting in.

Or, of course, you can always just look on the regional page for your area and find some people to play with who don't suck.

My advice to to insist on playing stages like Final, Battlefield, Fountain of Dreams or Dreamland, and pick a character like Samus or Link, just because they are relatively simple to get the hang of and they have decent move sets and good combo options.

Thanks Cowboyardee, thats just what I needed. I hope I can trash them enough to make them stop thinking Mushroom Kingdom is the "most balanced map in the game".

Oh and I could actually convince them to play one game on another map! I picked the map where you fight on that horizontally flying airplane/spaceship. I think its from StarFox. After a 12 Minute FFA ending +21 / -11 / -15 they were convinced the map totally sucks *** though. Note how the -15 guy has mastered the Pikachu-Sidetilt-B-Suicide ;)

The stage is Lylat System: Corneria. I've been playing this game too long... I usually play with my cousin but we are almost evenly matched.
