Hi there,

So I've been apart of an up and coming Convention in western Michigan. I led the gaming room last year and now am in charge of it again this year. Last year we had a HUGE turnout from the Smash community which for our first game room event i was not expecting. We had Project M and Melee featured which should be the same again this event. However, last year i had gentleman handle the tournaments for Smash while i handled our other games, etc. This year however it seems he will not be joining me. So, here in lies the problem: I need to properly learn to TO an event/game that i only have a casual understanding of, (i'm more familiar with SF, MvC, MK, etc). Any suggestions, examples, or help would be greatly appreciated. For example, structuring for brackets and what works the best from experience in terms of stocks and timing. I'm looking at giving away around $450 worth of cash and prizes for just THIS event so i want to make it as hype as possible :)

Thank you for your time,

MexiCal

With smash you can find the ruleset on the top of the website if you need it (sorry can't post a link i'm on my phone). Then you know the basics with bracket making i use challonge but you can use whatever works best. Other then that smash tournaments can be held quite easy as long as you know the ruleset and basic bracket making. There is other smash events like doubles so keep that in mind. Hopefully this helps you and sorry if i messed up with spelling or answering your question.

NOTE: You can have a really hype tournament if you have a stream and if people watch it.

Smash tourneys are honestly quite easy to run, just use the CEO or EVO rules and you should be good. Try your hardest to get a stream going as well.
