Hello all,

I'm new to SSB, the last time I played it would've been on the N64. Anyhoo I had a quick go on my cousins game and thought it warranted a purchase, I also purchased the game cube type controller as it's the best one to have (Pikachu version). So I'm completely new to the whole SSB series and would like know how do difficulty settings work and what's the best setting to start on so as to get used to the game, and what mode should I play? Or what's the best mode to play vs AI? I need to learn before I can play against other people lol

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you all.

If you want to have a simple match against the CPU, go to "Smash" mode. It's equivalent to "Vs. Mode" on the N64 game. There is a new ruleset function, but if you're just starting out, it's fine to use one of the two defaults that the game starts you with.
There's also Training Mode, which is under "Games & More".

I would advise not going into "Spirits" mode just yet. Those are unorthodox battles with special conditions.

Additional characters are unlocked through either clearing Classic Mode or playing a certain number of battles. Any difficulty of Classic Mode works, so don't feel pressured to go straight to the higher difficulties.

All stages are unlocked from the start, unlike any previous game in the series.

The difficulty number in Classic mode is different from CPU levels in Smash mode. CPUs make the computer behave more aggressively. Classic's intensity numbers in contrast, are stat modifiers; opponents at higher difficulties will hit harder and be more difficult to launch.

Thank you for your response, so I can edit difficulty as I go along on classic mode?

You cannot. When starting Classic mode, you set the difficulty between 1.0 and 5.0. As you progress, the difficulty increases in accordance to how well you perform on the next stage, all the way up to a maximum of 9.9. You cannot adjust the difficulty once you begin.

Ahh that's pretty cool, so the game is intuitive and sets the difficulty based on the individual. Cheers guys for your responses. Got the game today from my local store and got my self the NGC pikachu edition controller.
