New to Smash!

Hey guys, Jord here.

I am brand new to Smashboards, however not necessarily to Smash itself. I played Melee and Brawl a lot growing up, but mainly as a party game with my friends. Not competitively as it is today. I recently want to get back into the scene, and go to tournaments and what not. However, I don't have a GameCube, Wii, or any controllers anymore. I bought a Nintendo GameCube controller off of Amazon as well as an Adapter and plan to play Melee and or Brawl on an emulator. As for playing competitively, how can I get started? Who can I play? I don't know many people in my area that have the same passion as me and would love if anybody could give me any tips! I was also wondering if I should go to Xandau or not, as it is fairly close to me. Except I feel like I might get destroyed, but I suppose that's what makes a person good! And as for a main, I think I might choose Ice Climbers as I loved playing as them when I was a kid. I'd appreciate any advice you have! Thanks.

By all means go to that tourney. You might get destroyed but it's all part of the learning experience, plus you'll get some advice and tips from other players. You can also look at our site's Regional Zones page and see what other events may be going on in or near your area as well.

Keep playing other people and improve. Do that, and you'll be well on your way.

Welcome to the boards! There may be people dedicated to Smash Bros. in your area, so why not take a look at the Regional Zones section?

If you want to learn more about Ice Climbers, try going to their Melee and Brawl boards. I'm sure people will help you over there.
