I just started using Marth as a main and love him (my other mains are Falcon and IC). I have known he was a great character for a long time now but hadn't really player w/ him to often. Now that I am I would just like to know his weaknesses and some other basics. (I love his spike, pwnage maximus)

ok. the basic basics.
hes really good at edge guarding, with his d tilts and bs and smashes and etc.
he attacks fast, fast enough to have two aerial attacks in one short hop.
his chain throws are up and forward.

the "weaknesses"
he heavily relies on his tipped f-smash as a killer move (b/c neutral b takes a long time to charge). otherwise, he just edge guards
he has no projectile.

and one more thing.
if your going to dair someone by jumping off the edge, dont do it. it takes marth forever to recover from that move in the air. by the time you actually do recover, you won't be able to get back up. trust me. i learn from experience. if you use it any lower than the peak of a full single jump, then you probably wont get back on. try using bairs instead.

Marth's recovery is better than you think. It's completely possible to jump out and spike.

The fsmash doesn't always have to be tipped, just strong enough so that you can edgeguard them.

Marth is ALL about spacing and knowing where you need to be positioned...as with Marios Fmash sort of speak. his shffls are beyond impressive and his juggling ability is also very good. Get used to using all of his aerials and knowing when to use each one. The most effective-Fair it covers basically your entire body...just once again, get used to spacing with it. his spike should only be used after you execute his fair...it gives you the best positioning so recovering is a piece of cake.

Marths recovery seriously is not all that bad...all the time my friends say "howd you recover from that!?" his recovery does more than people actually think just get used to the rythm of his forward b swipes when recovering.

Uhhh... you can dair as an airguard... or hit them before they even get to the edge/if they miss the edge.

without using tricks (I consider Wavedashing a trick)

His B dosnt take as long a Roy to charge but it's not worth it
His Down-B is very effective

His Side-A is my personal favorite, is fast and does some damage
Up-A is useful if used right

im sorry but wavedashing a trick? I had to bust out laughing on that one...It WAS a trick...back like when i thought Roy was better than Marth...

edit-Up A?(up tilt or smash) Side A (same thing...)

ALL of marths moves are useful...i use them all except his upb for attack...marth has one of the best mindgames in my PERSONAL opinion

quick funny sidenote-Note anything weird about this page....like at all (check our avatats...haha)

Actually his Down-B isn't used very much in competitive play.

Usually you'd intercept them with a utilt or a uair instead. The usmash has a sweetspot that's further down than the tip, it's not that fast, and you'll probably get hit.

elvenarrow3000, don't talk so elitist

I've hit people with up-smashes while in chainthrow combos due to them expecting an up-tilt and di-ing to avoid/lower the damage completely, don't be so predictable.

The problem TheBlueDeath is Brawl. With many of the better smashes not really paying attention to the melee forums at the moment a lot of them are getting neglected.

To the OP, if you want to get a basic idea of what to do with Marth. Just watch videos... Your not asking specific advice, just general movement and strategy. Sure their will be many tactics you don't understand, aren't viable for you, and/or out of your reach as a competitive gamer. But hey, learning has to be somewhere in the middle of all of the easy stuff you can do.

And if you don't understand what I meant. It's easy enough to see what good Marth's do, but it's much harder to understand why, then actually implement them CORRECTLY into your game. Only way you can do that is by your own practice and trial and error.
