I'm not sure if this warrants its own thread or not or if anyone else has discovered this yet, but you can actually cancel/dodge the fire hydrant splash completely.
Spot dodging doesn't work - the tail end of the splash hits you as you exit your dodge animation and you're pushed back the full distance. However, I have learned that if you shield RIGHT before the splash hits you, and immediately spot dodge, you will severely mitigate or nullify (if your timing is absolutely perfect) the pushback effect, causing the splash to go harmlessly past you.
The coolest thing I have learned is that say you have a setup like this:
H = hydrant
E = enemy
P = you
____H >>E >> P(splash dodge)
what will happen is the enemy will end up sliding past you like:
____ H___P >>E
leaving him probably confused and bewildered and in a perfect spot to unleash havoc on, because his back is towards you and he likely didn't expect to end up where he is.
Thoughts? I call it a splash dodge. If anyone could explain the technical mechanics behind this and why this is happening exactly I'd be stoked. I'm not a frame guru and this was discovered just by ****ing around with the hydrant in training mode. I can't record, unfortunately, unless it's on my phone, or i'd better demonstrate uses I've found for this. There's nothing more annoying than getting pushed by your own hydrant. The really bad news for us is that if pacman ever becomes prominent in the metagame, everyone will learn how to do this effectively.
