Smash Rookie
So I have been thinking (fantasizing, really) about the ultimate version of a Smash Bros game and how Nintendo has done some great things with this franchise but could also tap into SO much more creative ideas.
The main goal of this post is to brainstorm potential ideas fora new Smash Bros game and what would be desired in a new game. Everything from characters, to stages, challenges, modes, rule options, controller options, game content, game menu layouts, story lines in solo mode, etc.
If there is something you wish could be part of Nintendo's next release of Smash, feel free to share your thoughts (without being rude). So here are some things I have thought about that could be cool implements in the game...but fair warning, I'm just going off the top of my head- haven't thought this completely through, nor do I have a clue of what limitations there are on a game engine like Smash Bros.

MULTIPLAYER--
- Keep it simple. Should be right on the main menu, jump in to the characters and start a game. No need for there to be any other required steps for this to happen.
- Options! This is something Smash has done pretty well but could still be better with new modes that aren't based on items. I don't think many people enjoy playing a mode where a flower is always on your head all the time...how about a mode where your stocks are different characters? Or a mode where it's a race on an obstacle course where you can gain items while also trying to fight others on the course with you.
- Online play has arrived. With Smash 4 breaking the glass ceiling (I know Brawl had it, but...it was...just...bad) I thought about an online mode where there are competitive modes extended for 1 on 1 play. Have a best of 3,5,7 match with the same opponent where there are turns of stage picks/bans and possibly character bans as a potential option.
- Subspace Emissary from Brawl showed us that it's definitely possible to have a good campaign mode. S.E. certainly wasn't perfect, but it was a unique single player experience that was for the most part enjoyable to the majority of players. Smash has the capacity for a HUGE story mode. So many characters, rivals, villains that can make for interesting plot ideas within a bigger story mode. Nintendo really ought to capitalize on this.
- Challenges & Achievements! This is where I honestly feel Smash Bros can take the game to the next level. The "challenge wall" in Brawl was a good start but Nintendo can dig much deeper into this with unlock-able content. There needs to be better rewards than just a trophy! Why on earth would I slave over beating Classic mode on the hardest difficulty for a freakin trophy?!? How about unlocking a special skin for characters upon completing certain challenges or a new look to the menu or even new challenges to work on. Either way, the achievement part of it should be able to be showcased afterwards. This is something Call of Duty does this (along with many other games) where your reward is something you can show off upon completing such challenges. We don't need off the wall insanely hard challenges, just more little ones with better rewards than trophies or songs. I understand there are character and stage unlocks too and that's fine. But there's more out there for challenges and achievements.
- This went from good to worse as the franchise progressed and it's not that hard to have an easy, eye pleasing menu and sub-menus. I would advocate that lists are much more efficient than having a map like menu.
- Certain aspects of the game should be easy access. Period. Multiplayer, Campaign, Training and options are the only 4 categories I would have on the main menu.
- The idea of "passive" effects in Smash is an interesting one and I think Nintendo could do more with this but this should also be an option and not something we are stuck with. I like the idea of Lucario's "rage aura" effect and maybe more characters could have something like this added to the arsenal- such as a moveset change after certain percentages, on certain stages, against certain opponents, etc. Maybe different forms of characters for adjusted play styles- similar to Shulk but as entire variations of a character. However, I am not a huge fan of the "rage" effect in Smash 4 that allows for some seriously grimy jank. Smash has done very small doses of this in previous games (Pokemon Trainer, Zelda/Sheik combo, ZSS transformation) but I think these mechanics should be explored more and yet remain options that you can remove should players find too much fault in them.
