So I've known about the all the capture methods outlined in the GameBridge sticky for a while now. While quick, easy, and convenient, it doesn't offer much in terms of quality. What I am looking for here if there is a better way to record tournament matches.
Using splitter cables cuts the impedance of the signal in half going to both input devices. This means reduced quality, especially since we're talking about video capture and a Composite source here.
Here are my main questions:
Is there a way convenient recording can be achieved without splitting the signal? Would some kind of video cloning device need to be used? I assume that some capture cards also offer a mirrored output, but I'd equally assume that this probably creates a good deal of lag.
Are there any options for convenient Component signal capture? I would imagine that this would give some good quality captures. The ideal tournament scenario I can picture in my head is finals matches played on a large projector / HD TV with the match being recorded by Component capture somehow. Widescreen + 480p + YouTube's new HD upgrades = WIN.
I assume that video capture of this kind will probably require investment in some moderately expensive equipment and that setup and ease of use would probably be nowhere near as easy or convenient as GameBridge or similar options, but I was curious to see if anyone knew of any new devices or developments in this area of tech that would make this easier or more affordable than I thought. Just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. ^^
