New melee player, trouble picking a main

Hello, I'm a new to Smashboards, and I just started playing melee (courtesy of a friend who got me into it) and I've been having trouble picking a main, since a lot of characters are fun to play. I've played sm4sh competitively for about a year now, and I use rosalina and ness. In melee, the pace is a lot faster, and I prefer to play characters who are more defensive and don't require as much tech skill practice and rely more on patience and mind games, so I can apply what I learned in sm4sh better to melee. So far I've considered Marth, Shiek, and Jigglypuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
