Nice to meet you all.

My name is Joe, though amongst my friends I am known as Dazz. If neither of those suits you, you can call me by my username Ranjazzo. I am going to be a college freshman in less than a month. I am familiar with the Melee scene, but never did the training necessary to reach that higher level of competitive play. I have decided to do this with Ice Climbers and have registered with this forum for its resources and sense of community. I meet with my friends multiple times a week to casually play, though only one is versed with the advanced techniques. Also, my roommate plays competitively where I live and he is another motivation for wanting to learn the real tricks of the trade. I have lurked this forum before but have decided it would benefit me to join, so here I am!

I am going to school for a degree in music education. Some of my other interests include writing, tabletop gaming, and tennis. Feel free to ask me anything about my interests and I will answer as soon as I can. Thank you for reading this and I hope to make some friends.

Hey, welcome ^^ It never is too late to start taking the game seriously. Good luck with learning the tricks of the trade. Although it comes more down to knowing what you're doing than advanced techniques. Sure, the are important too, and those who can are seperated from those who can't, but I'd say 90% is knowing what you're doing. If you don't have anyone around, start with that. How can you combo? Which moves can be followed up for high damage in a short period of time? Try every char and try to find one you're comfortable with. Once you know how things like that work, you can start with the more advanced stuff.

Also, try to do least as possible gimmicky stages and items. They can be fun, sure, and it can also take some skill you get good at that, but it won't prepare you for the real battles. Just... try things out and get to know every character so you not only know how to play your char, but also how to anti-play your opponent

@ leeprtr leeprtr if you have questions feel free to send me a pm or whatever. I'm not a pro, but I've done my fair share of tourneys and I actually made it #5 once, so

Shuckle brought up solid points. It won't do much good if you can perform advanced techniques but not know how to apply them into your game properly.

Luckily, we have a guide around here for getting into competitive Smash if you ever get lost/confused on certain aspects :D

Hope you enjoy college (great place to meet more Smashers as well) and the forum-life here!
