So I'm working on recreating the global melee netplay setting in Dolphin to improve it. I need some thoughts as to whether or not to add or remove anything. So please, post away! It seems there's a 256 line limit before things start breaking/not working.

here's the code list: http://pastebin.com/38CFazXq

Just the code titles, for your convenience: snip (deprecated by OP edit, thanks!)

So I'm working on recreating the global melee netplay setting in Dolphin to improve it. I need some thoughts as to whether or not to add or remove anything. So please, post away!

here's the code list: http://pastebin.com/38CFazXq

Neutral start is the main one I want to discuss.

edit: added L cancel percentage
Don't force people to use neutral start unless they want too. This can provoke bad habits trying to go for spawns that aren't actually in vMelee. SleepyK got annoyed when we added it to the Community Build, but we made it toggleable in the debug menu so everything was fine. Spawns might not sound like much, but it's a global change for stages and can mess some people up. It's not good to practice with.

Made some changes. Removed neutral start as a default. I can't really think of anything else that should be in the custom debug menu.

+1 for keeping stage striking. It's really nice for friendlies.

Code:
Normal C-Stick Functionality in Develop Mode (1.02) [Magus, Achilles]
Unrestricted Pause Camera [Link Master]
L Cancel % in Results Screen [Wooggle]
20XX Neutral Spawn for Singles and Doubles (1.02) [Achilles, Jorgasms]
Flash on L cancel
These seem like the kind of settings that should stay separate in the INI from Global Melee Neplay, and if players want to practice or use a non-vanilla change, besides obvious QoL, then they should negotiate that before the match since having different cheats active will desync netplay otherwise.

The only reason I'd even argue allowing the debug menu in, is because of the ability to do endless matches and the like, but even then, that seems like part of this practice optional stuff.

Melee Netplay is used for matches, not providing a practice tool. (Especially since buffer is going to **** your timings if you actually use it to practice anything besides matches against a real player.)

The reason debug stuff is in there is because it's already in the current global melee netplay setting and some people like to test stuff with a friend in debug mode. I mean, you aren't losing anything by having it except tournament mode which is obsolete. I don't see what the harm is in having it in. As long as it is separate from tournament play which it is.

I just see it as, if they want to do that with friends, they can choose to enable the cheat, since they had to go through the effort of enabling Global Melee Netplay, get what I mean?

I just think it's an unnecessary edition to an existing set of codes. If people want to play with that, I don't think they need the debug menu to do it, since it's not a console thing where enabling those codes is tedious. I move to add any missing codes to the main list, as opposed to under Melee Netplay.

I can't see any problems with Unrestricted Pause Camera and L-Cancel %. Both are not going to change gameplay. The pause camera is nice when you're messing around, and the L-cancel percentage can be useful for when you're trying to work on consistency. I can't see the C-Stick in Develop being used much, and the Spawn should go into some sort of debug menu if included. Again, it wouldn't hurt for friendlies, but it's not necessary and it'll probably come down to how large we want the code to be.

I see no reason why you would ever use torunament mode in netplay, and debug mode has had its uses in its past for netplay testing with other people. Honestly, If it doesn't affect the gameplay I am fine with it, I really would love to have stage striking, its worth the space specially for people not using anthers ladder.

The solution is not to edit the spawn locations themselves, but to properly select the appropriate vanilla spawn points regardless of port number. In other words, the game starts as if the players took the time to plug into the given stage's "neutral start" configuration. This is what I did for 20XXTE, and I can provide the code.

I think this would be ideal.

Assuming this goes on the end of the code?

I think this entire netplay code is at a point to be made final now.

Yes.

Also, I think a lot of those codes can be cut from the list. Stage striking, 1P C-stick, debug menu functionality, and L-cancel %, and possibly others. IMO, the point of the netplay codeset is to facilitate the convenience of jumping in and out of games with no setup required and potential interruptions removed. A lot of these inclusions seem like arbitrary "because we can" inclusions that the majority of the netplay community (i.e. Anther's Ladder) have no collective use for. That's just my perspective, but I take a very conservative approach to these things.

I think that this thread has gone waaay to fast and needs to slow down a bit. I'd like to propose an immediate fix to the glaring issues of the original code, with a better code coming later with more thought and player input.
Code:
Default Tournament Settings (1.02) [Magus, et all]
043D4A48 00340102
043D4A4C 04000A00
043D4A50 08010100
043D4A60 FF000000
043D4A70 00000000
043D4A74 3C000000
043D4A78 E70000B0

Boot to CSS [Dan Salvato]
041A45A0 3C000202
041A45A4 901E0000

Unlock All Characters and Stages (1.02) [Datel]
0445BF28 FFFFFFFF
0445BF2C FFFFFFFF

Debug Menu Replaces Tournament Mode (1.02) [Magus, donny2112]
0422D638 38000006

Normal C-Stick Functionality in 1Player Modes (1.02) [Zauron]
0416B480 60000000

Random Stage Select
0445C388 470000B0

True Special Message Delete
0445C20C 39400000
0245C390 00030000
0445C0D4 01010100
0045C110 00000001
0445C230 10000000
0045C114 00000027
0445C228 80000000
0045C22C 00001111

Disable Trophy Messages [Achilles]
0415d984 4e800020
Still an AR code. It has the following changes from the original:
  • Settings are not locked in game
  • Team attack is on by default
  • Trophy messages are disabled
I'd also like to move the Netplay Safe Kill Music AR code to be second on the list, directly under the netplay code. A lot of people don't know it exists but would like to know.

On another note, I think we should consider the name for the final code. Global Melee Netplay Settings was named after the netplay group Global Melee. Perhaps it should be changed to something more generic, like "Netplay Settings" or something on the sort, since Global Melee is dead (afaik, and the biggest user is Smash Ladder regardless).

I can see the argument there. The reason a lot of the one player stuff is in is mostly because many people like to practice on Dolphin and dislike having to disable/enable codes to play by oneself or accidentally leaving them on and causing unnecessary desyncs. The debug menu is actually in the current global melee netplay settings.

Changing the name to simply Netplay settings might imply that you need them to play Netplay. The name and moving the other code is easy to do and will be done. Perhaps "Netplay Community Settings" would be best imo or maybe "Netplay Tournament Settings" but I'm leaning towards the former. I think we should put these codes that are in addition to the current codeset/fixes to a community poll and see what people think.

So after surveying about 150 Netplayers, I got these results:
Name of Code
*52% Global Melee Netplay Settings
*22% Netplay Community Settings
*18% Netplay Settings
*5% Default Tournament Settings
*3% Netplay Tournament Settings

Stage Striking
*85% Yes
*15% No

Salty Runback
*65% Yes
*45% No

L Cancel %
*90% Yes
*10% No

Unrestricted Pause Camera
*70% Yes
*30% No

Neutral Spawn (20XXTE Variation)
*78% Yes
*22% No

1 Player stuff (c-stick in 1p mode, ect)
*84% Yes
*16% No

Vanilla Debug Menu
*79% Yes
*21% No

I think it's pretty safe to say that most of these new codes are welcomed and wanted by the community so I think we should leave it as is. As for the name, I think Global Melee Netplay Settings got so much support because they're used to it. I feel the second most picked (Netplay Community Settings) should still be considered as the name.

+1 for Netplay Community Settings. It shows more that it's not required and separates it from Global Netplay.

jknojoker (on anthersladder) and i were playing friendlies and we encounter this really odd bug with the new dolphin build and new codes

https://youtu.be/vRk6QITLAK0

I powershielded an attack as ganondorf RIGHT at the ledge while being pushed off the stage by whispy and i was frozen in the guardon animation. I could not move until i was hit.

Hi All,
Sorry for the noob question - I'm trying to set up netplay with my friends and trying to troubleshoot something and stumbled across this chain. Wondering if any of you would be able to help? We've all been using the latest rc version with global netplay melee settings, but we'd like to turn items ON. Based on what i've read, the global netplay settings defaults items to off - and when in game, even if we try to item switch to turn them on, it defaults to off, which I am presuming is the doing of the global netplay settings. My question is - is there any way to turn items ON?
Thanks!

You could turn off the code and turn on individual unlock stuff since the global melee netplay settings will turn items off. Or remove the part of the code that turns items off
