Some may call me crazy for this, but I'm starting to main Ganondorf.

Are there any tips, secrets, or pointers I may want to know to help me out? Things I won't find in the stickies.

And please, no jokes or flaming!

Things you won't find in the stickies are things that can't be told but must be learned.

End topic. Goddamn I'm awesome.

Ganondorf has a very small sticker on the bottom of his boot that reads "Skill not included".

You'll just have to practice to really use Ganon to his fullest potential. I've been playing him for 2 months now, and I'm still working out the kinks in my routine.

Please, don't start maining him, When I mained him it was one of the most awful experiences I ever had (although I'm good as him) If you must main him the only tip i could give you is that you shouldn't spam his up B.

That Ganon was extremely patient and played well...when he was on the stage. Tipman spike eats Toon Link alive (albeit the edgehogs were nice).

This is basically what you should be doing.

Spike them. Spike them all.

Seriously. Ganon has 4 spikes, off the top of my head. (dair, last part of uair, DownB, and Ganoncide on a technicality) All 4 spikes are powerful, and are probably Ganon's best way to kill things. Dair also doubles as his best damage racker, especially if you can short hop it.

My friend mains ganondorf and he owns me!
Either I suck, or he's awesome! Still, ganon is
a hard character to master and he probably played
as him for a LLLOOOONNNNNGGGG time. Try playing
as other slow characters first. Eg: Snake, Link, Bowser,
ect. ect. Then once you got the point down, tackle ganon!

Well, it depends on your matchup, but here's some general info.

UpB - Rarely use , only use it as a recovery option.

DownB - Not a bad spike option. Not a bad ground option either. Depends on matchup. Has great priority.

SideB - Recovery option, Best grab option, Sets up combos, can stop Counter.

B - Never ever ever use it (Unless you are 100% sure it won't get disrupted).

Dash - Does great damage and knockback. Use it.

Down-Air - Does great knockback, damage, paralyzes enemy.

Side-Smash - Amazing damage and knockback. A little startup lag though.

Up-Tilt - A lot of start up lag, but it's a great edgeguard.

A - Does a decent amount of damage. It's quick and has great knockback. Short range though.

Hope this helps.

I'm gonna have to disagree with Sliq's ego. I think a decent roll and having gotten into "B" or full hop range would have been a more efficient approach. Shielding those boomerangs instead of dodging/jumping them means they shoot right back to TLink instead of having to slowly come back, and TLink can't depend on arrows or bombs when the dark lord's boots are lingering above him.

Yes but if your facing a campy toon link and roll your a pin cushion of arrows or you have a sword up your butt. While shielding takes longer he got hit less often and didn't let toon link rack up the damage.

It's a lot about psychology. IF someone sees you powershielding all of their ****, they might consider stopping. Completely shutting down a part of someone's game is a sure fire way to get them to stop, because thee perceive it as not being effective and therefor stop doing it. Smart players won't stop doing though, as was the case with the Toon Link.

Furthermore, rolling is extremely punishable, and Ganon's game revolves around reacting to the opponents, and reacting AS Ganon is a sure fire way to lose.

But when you watch this video, the Ganon still ends up getting hit by projectiles (see 0:42). A few missed powershields either means you take damage, or your shield diminishes to the point that your feet are now exposed.

It takes a lot of effort to powershield like that and you're bound to screw up sooner or later. It doesn't take nearly the effort to spam like TLink. In a battle of attrition, TLink is doing more for less. Further, the Ganon in the vid also ends up spacing backwards to avoid the bomb TLink pulls out. If TLink suddenly decided to rush a grab at the right spacing, again, I don't think it'd look good for Ganon.

I'm not disagreeing that Ganon has to be patient, nor contesting your skill with the game. "It's faster to act than to react" and "The best defense is offense" may not always apply to every video game scenario, but there certainly seems to be some merit in the tactic of trying to powershield everything a projectile spammer throws at you, since it does create predictability.

since when is rolling a good approach?
It'd depend on what your opponent is doing. The Links like to throw out a projectile and take the time to then yank out a laggy *** bomb. If you roll past a projectile instead of shielding/dodgeing/getting hit (lol), you not only close ground but are now in the face of a Link without access to his melee attacks.

Did you notice it was all online? That alone pretty much voids your arguments. Of course he was going to screw up - input lag most likely screwed him over. If it wasn't online, he might not have been hit at all.

powershielding everthing does create some predictability. But in many of the instances if ganny rolled he would have been hit more often than he actually did. Ganny however has many approaches including rolling in certain circumstances. Being patient is good for ganondorf, but so is mixing it up on approaches. On ranged spammers I usually power shield the first shot and slide followed by a thunder storm. That usually does the trick.

Just don't get frustrated man, Ganon is a hard character to main. A lot of practice and patience is required to use him. Just stay dedicated and you should be all right.
