Smash Obsessed
Just announced, I figured I'd let you know about this new device.
I've been capturing video from game consoles and such for over 10 years, and I can tell you it's no easy task. There's tons of different options out there, plenty that get discontinued, plenty that seem to break, and plenty that seem to not work with a good amount of software, and there simply isn't a good affordable solution for 480p video capture (only i).
Roxio just announced two two products, Roxio Game Capture for PC coming Q2, software that can record PC games in HD and full screen for $50, and more importantly Roxio Game Capture for Consoles coming in about a week or two for $100. This is a hardware/software package that accepted component video inputs (and I'm hoping RCA as well, but I don't think it does) and transfers to what I'm assuming is USB. The box also sports some outputs (not just inputs), which many capture cards lack these days.
The package also has software good for capturing the footage along with basic editing, and can export it with included presets for YouTube and such. I don't know about compatibility with other software yet. Either way, seems like a great deal (only $100) to get your 480p capture on, and seeing that is is made for game capturing and seems to be targeted to consumers looking for an easy way to do this, the software should be easy to use for people looking to break into the videography scene.
Roxio Game Capture launches on March 24th.
