I am new to the Super Smash Bros scene. In the past my cousin would play it a lot, but I didn't take it seriously. I was a FPS only gamer. Recently my cousin told me about how I could get a n64 emulator on my phone and I started to play smash 64 pretty religiously. I decided at that moment that this game is for me. There is no other community out there as supportive and yet competitive as this one. I would like to one day become great and to be recognized as one of if not the best. My main for all games but melee is link and in melee young link. I am excited to enter this world and would take any advice anyone is willing to give.

Ah, another loyal Link main joins the boards, huh?

Welcome to the forums! You're definitely among the few that plays the 64 iteration as their primary Smash game.

There's much to learn around this place, so take in all knowledge you can, but have fun at the same time :)

Thanks Honor I appreciate the warm welcome. I have been a link main now for a couple of months, and after watching Armada perform the way he did at Evo it inspired me. I am going to move to SSB4 as my primary once it drops, but as of right now I working on preparing the best I can to compete with the best of them.

Honor? :p

But that sounds good, I respect your dedication. I take it that you plan on maining Link again for SSB4?

Stupid spell check smh...anyways yea I'm staying loyal to Link. I have never explored having a second character, but I know it is necessary in situations where link is a bad match up with another character. So I have been looking at Greninja(no guarantees just yet).

Unless a MU is really bad, I'll try to work it out. Only reason why I didn't main Ganondorf in Brawl is because of how awful he was all around. It broke my heart.

Yea man I checked out your profile and you are a true Ganondorf fan. From what I have heard on Link nothing has really changed other than his appearance. Everything is more detailed but same move set list, which is fine with me because I don't have to forget and relearn. What attracted you to Robin?

Yessir. Ganondorf is easily my favorite villain and one of my all-time favorite Nintendo characters. As for Link, I think he has a new dash attack, but that's about it for what we know of him so far aside from other little tweaks.

Well, my story behind wanting to use Robin is because I'm a big Fire Emblem fan. My favorite Nintendo franchises are Fire Emblem, Legend of Zelda, and Star Fox, so since Melee (because Fire Emblem didn't have representation in 64), I always make sure to use one character from each series. I really enjoyed FE: Awakening and felt that Robin would be a great choice for the next Smash, especially with his/her moveset potentially. I was an active poster in the Robin support thread for a good while, always discussing how nice it would be to have Robin in Smash, etc, with the other supporters all while most others thought that there was no chance due to the Gematsu leak (leak of prophecy). So when Robin was featured in the reveal trailer on the 14th of July, I was ecstatic.

To keep a long story short, my character selections are always based off of personal reasons...for starters, the main thing is that I have to like the character outside of Smash. If I don't, I'll never consider using them, no matter how good they are.

Welcome nice to see another person who has hopes for Link lol. Anyways I'll give some input of what I played at BestBuy.

Link does have a couple different things about him. Based from what I've played at the BestBuy E3 version. Yes I can confirm his dash attack is changed its now the lunging attack(Aka his jump slash from OOT). and his back roll is changed also. As well as Animation for UpAir. His Dair is primarily the same but I believe when the move first comes out it has a Meteor/Spike on it. Due to the time restraint I really couldn't tell if D-tilt had the Spike on it. I tried but wasn't sure if the hitbox is just different or if its no longer there due to the Dair change. UP-B (Grounded) seemed to be a bit faster on the charge.

Anywho thats all the info I have for now. Can't wait for this game to come out. Link in every smash game has always been my goto first.

Welcome cuzzo!

Use this site well. Plenty of people to meet. A wealth of information to improve yourself. And it's just fun.

A couple of other things I heard about Link is that he's a bit faster, his tether (chain to grab ledge) has madd range, and he can act out of his Zair (using his grab in midair) much faster. Get Greg or Brian to run some Melee with you. Catch you this weekend.
