I was reading a thread on the tactical forums about being able to b-stick moves without changing your c-stick to special, hoping that I could pull off the technique.

Instead, I believe I found something of interest.

A mere application of what was mentioned in said thread.

In the thread, it tells how to perform a "reverse special" which is simply tapping the opposite direction you're facing in the first few frames of a special attack. This works quite well.

The thread goes on to talk about how to replicate the little backwards movement we saw in the b-stick videos.

It also mentions in a later post that these reverse specials in the air cause a severe momentum shift.

I was messing with this and thought a little deeper.

Say you attack your opponent and you begin to dash away from him.

Here, you can SH and reverse special your neutral b move. Since the neutral b move now gives Marth some forwards momentum, this is translated backwards. You'll find yourself moving a decent clip back towards where you came from.

While there are other ways to turn around, I believe this is a neat little way to launch a swift counter attack.

EDIT: I just tried applying this to fox trotting and it gets pretty cool. Say you're mindgaming with fox trot (as I like to) by trotting towards your opponent and then making use of the ability to change directions instantly, trot back in the other direction with a quick slam of the analog stick.

I just took this a step further by doing this exact move and on the very next dash, applying the above technique. Go and try it yourself please. It looks really cool and probably could be applied in competition as well, no matter which b move you utilize.

Hehe, yeah. Good thing eh?

Still, has anyone tried this out? I wanna know if anyone else would use it. I think I might throw it into some battles as a change of pace/ surprise attack.

bump?

I'm actually wondering about the applications of this... I could make a video if people would find it easier to understand.

I've thrown it in a bit here and there in my matches and it seems to do what it's supposed to, though it's a little tough to pull off consistently.
