Need help with a grabbing issue.

Hey, I'll keep it quick.

In Melee (and Project M), I'm having a lot of issues with grabbing with the Z button. Either after a jab, or jump cancel grabs, or grabbing after a blank shorthop.

What happens is, seemingly randomly, my character won't grab and will instead light shield quickly. I'm fairly certain I"m not putting any other inputs in while I do it. It isn't a controller problem as it happens with several controllers. Some other people I have talked to have the problem rarely, but with me it seems fairly constant.

Anyone know what may be causing this? Really wanna fix it so I can stop worrying about it while I try to improve.

If you're holding the z button before an attack finishes that, could be it.

I'm pretty sure it light shields since after a grab is missed and you're holding it you will just light shield.

you're holding Z down too long. you just need to learn the timing of grabbing after a move

You're hitting z before the endlag of your previous action is over.
