*NEED HELP* Pikachu Vs. Mario

I need some advice on how to beat my brother (who plays as Mario) as Pikachu (my favorite character) in melee. He has this annoying tactic of running away from me till he's across the stage, and then he just spams fireballs. I get close, and he punches me once or twice before running away and, again, spamming fireballs. If I were to try and do the same with my b, he just reflects the attacks with his cape.

I ended up turning off the Wii and cursing like a sailor. Then I came here.

yeah at least that way u have a means to make his fireballs next to useless.

Yes you did.

Try approaching with the Neutral Air. It's a pretty sexy move. Up Smash is also really strong, try to get a hit with it at higher %s. As for Fire Ball spam, outsmart him if you can. Or shield till he gets closer or stops. Also remember, try to get ON STAGE with your recovery, as the Cape can really **** up Pikachu's Side B and Up B for recovery, even moreso than other characters. I suggest a lot of Neutral Air spam.

Don't know much about Melee's Pikachu though. Ask around in the Melee Pikachu specific threads if you can?

If you enjoy playing as Pikachu, then you shouldn't switch, especially if you don't end up enjoying Fox.

Am I correct assume you and your brother are relative beginners?

If all else fails, try picking Samus and learn how to shoot Super Missiles. Combine that with a fully charged Charge Shot to give him a taste of his own medicine. Watch out not to become predictable though, as the Cape can reflect everything back.

Anyway, on the subject of dealing with spammers/campers: try changing up your approach. Are you walking/running towards him? Try approaching from the air.
