Need help installing Project M 3.01

I have an unhacked NTSC Wii console that I use. I've gone to Project M's website and downloaded the most recent version of the mod, 3.01. I first tried the hackless wii zip (full set). I deleted all my custom stages, made sure smash service is turned off and named the card "disc" so it's not any derivative of project m or the like. I placed the following files directly into the SD card:

codes
private
projectm
boot.elf
gameconfig

I've seen many images of what should be in the folder which show a background.png and a second file called "apps." Neither of these came with the download so I'm assuming these are outdated files?

Anyway, after completing all of these steps, I turned switched the lock slider on the SD card to "on" and plugged it into the system with the system off. I booted up the system, started brawl and went to the stage builder. I get the loading icon and after about 2-3 revolutions of it, the screen goes black with some text, then instead of going to the green screen with text in the middle such as I see in the videos of the game loading, but instead, a green screen with varying shades of green, purple streaks and such.

I figured I might need to go back, delete the data and try the Hackless Wii ZIP (WiFi-Safe) version instead. Followed all of the same steps above, and got the same result.

Anyone have any troubleshooting tips for this issue?

The lock switch on your SD card is supposed to be turned off not on.

Each time that this has occurred, I've had the slider turned in the off position. At least I thought I did. It is a toshiba 2gb sd card. I'll check again to make certain. The only other result I've gotten is the system going to the stage builder menu and detecting the card but being eternally stuck trying to load what appears to be a custom stage thats blank. At that point, its stuck and allows no inputs from the controller.

I've had that happen before. When that happens, I just turn off my Wii and try again. It usually works after that.

Just gave it a try. The slider is set to the up position on the card. The same error shows up for both positions of the slider.

It's asking for an allocation unit size. Options are 32 kilobytes and 64 kilobytes. Third option says default allocation size. I selected default allocation size. We'll see if this helps. Apparently the default type was FAT for this particular card.

Going to do some troubleshooting tonight. I believe the problem may be with my wii console or game disk. The disk had some noticeable scratching in an arc around the inner area on the label side. If not that, then it could very well be my console on it's last leg.

I doubt it has anything to do with your Wii or disc (reader) going bad. If the Wii works fine and runs Brawl and other games smoothly without any freezing, it's most likely not a hardware issue. By reading and looking at your problem, the only answer I can think of would be you're not using a 2GB or less SD card.

You're also going to need to redownload the hackless set because 3.02 was released just recently. It's up to you whether you want to download the full set or the Wi-Fi safe set, as the former gives you the full experience, while the latter takes away stage striking, C-stick buffers, and doesn't differentiate between light and hard press L/R inputs in order to be able to view replays and play with friends online.

Before you do that, try erasing the name of your SD card. I don't think it's supposed to be named at all when activating Project M.

I will redownload the 3.02 version and give that a shot tonight. However, I do know that the card is a 2gb toshiba SD card. 1.87 gb is available when empty and the model number is m-02g.

Deleting the name on the sd card is about the only option I can forsee still causing an issue, aside from the game disk being bad. Tbh, I've played ssbm for so long that I'm not aware of the playability of my brawl disk anymore.

Reformatted to FAT 64 kilobyte allocation size and got rid of the name of the card. Installed the new 3.02. I got the same error screen progression, but after the weird colors screen, it booted up! Finally got to play it.i love what they did with Toon Link, Mario, Ivysaur and Charizard. And wavedashing is so easy now!

The error/abnormal color screen after going into stage builder is supposed to happen, but the freezing you got every time while doing it wasn't.
