So when playing Marth my biggest downfall everybody points out is that I can't edgeguard for Sh*t. Even though I know I should WD off stage and edgeguard from there I just tend to throw an Fsmash hoping the hitbox God is with me today.

Any ideas what to do in an edgeguarding situation? Preferably versus shoryuken style recoveries e.g. Mario, Peach, Falcon etc.

couple things, don't make it harder than it is

  • hardly ever is wave dashing off these stage the best or easiest option, rarely so I wouldn't worry about that now at all
  • dtilt is great vs those recoveries
  • grabbing ledge and hitting them with a bair
  • threatening with F smash
  • actually using f smash
  • neutral B destroys falcon
  • peach you just need to play the stage position game, you can keep swatting her away because you have more options than she has and you out prioritize everything she can come down with
If you know you're bad at something that's mental (decision making/doing something you know doesn't work) then stop doing it. If you know you shouldn't f smash then stop doing it, think about it for a sec (step away from the game for a second maybe), and try something else. questions like these are hard to answer

I find peach really hard to edgeguard as marth unless she goes for the parasol which is really hard to sweetspot and then you can punish really easy with a tippered Fsmash. Most peach players will try to get to the stage from above and only thing you can do is Fair-Bair them, or make a lucky tippered Utilt and kill her.
Falcon you got so many options, personally I don't like going straight for the Fsmash, try mixing Fairs with Fsmashes, grabs and throw him off stage, Dtilts, and if you read him well, go for a more risky Dair.

I prefer not going off the stage against those shoryuken chars but it all depends on the situation. The fast startup those UpB moves have can make you get onto a bad position. In marth dittos, or against Dr. Mario, even against link, I just stay on the platform and Dtilt, Dair or Fsmash accordingly.

739 Mew2king edguards, watch bits and pieces for fun and to pick up new things. I'm quite fond of run -> bair as the fastest way to grab ledge or face away offstage to set up for a dair or bair (you can cover a lot of space like this), side-b into a charging spacie up-b to fair or reverse dolphin slash, or a well timed tipper on the ledge. Learn to ledgehop dair spacie recovery consistently, it helps a lot.

Also, an important thing in edge guarding is manipulating where you opponent will go and punishing the choice they make. If you take ledge against a ganon or falcon (as seen early in the video) they are forced to land on stage and take your punish or be ledgehogged. Similarly, if you take ledge against a spacie, they will have to land onstage. Figure out what they will do given their position (if they are below, they will up-b, if they are slightly above the stage, they could side-b) and be ready to counter that. If you space yourself to tipper the ledge when they try to up-b, you cover their option of sweet spotting, so they'll go above in an attempt to avoid you or challenge your timing by sweetspotting anyway. Be prepared to cover both options.
