Hey, im new to the game.. and was wondering if anyone at all could help me with some tips on how to train with Marth, Pikachu, and Fox. Those are my three best characters in order. I would like help learning some of the more advanced techniques in the game, and if anyone is interested in helping me that would be awesome..
Thanks

Well, from my experience training alone I can tell you that having a friend is so useful for practicing, but you can still do it alone.
If you don't depend on the C-stick too much that's good because you can't use it in the 1 player training mode.

The first advanced techniques you should learn are wavedashing and L cancelling, two of the most useful ones in my opinion. I learned those first too.

If you need more of an explanation you can reply, since you may not need all the words right now.

Yeah, ive been practising wavedashing and L cancelling a lot. And after watching replays of other marth players, I'm still a bit unsure of what they are used for other than movement? In particular wavedashing seems to be used to move into attacks? Is that the only use?

Well, the wavedash is used for movement and positioning. If you are edgegaurding and your opponent uses a recovery move that can hit you, then you wavedash back and hit them. It's seen in a lot of matches. The great thing about wavedashing is that you can do any move right out of it, so it sets you up for spacing and even grabs.

Another use for it is wavelanding on platforms, basically air dodging into a platform so you aren't susceptible to moves like marths uptilt when you land.

To answer your question directly, wavedashing is primarily for attacking, but it's used for spacing and position too.

Take this with a grain of salt though because I'm not that great at the game myself.

Videos, what a lot of videos and see what other Marths do. Look at their movement and their spacing and try to imitate it.

Practice your tech skill, 100% consistency on your l-cancels, and wavedashes. Marth is the epitome of movement and spacing IMO, he moves so fluidly and then punishes hard. Watch how people avoid and evade moves by dash dancing and wavedashing and how they punish after
