i just bought an n64 and the joystick is stiff. Are n64 controllers supposed to be like this or is it because its old and worn out? I can hear the stick grinding when i press it.

The joy stick should put up resistance, but not be hard to move. You also might just need to break it in some.

Oh, sorry, I thought you bought a controller to use online (you would need to calibrate it in Windows).

If you're playing on an N64 then there's nothing you can do. The stiffness should go away after playing for a bit.

I feel like I'm the only smasher who prefers a stiff analog... I find it much easier to have control of my character. *shrug

I like a joystick that is easy to rotate. its not about the stiffness, its about how quickly you can achieve a full circle. If you can't rotate around the stick quickly, then you can't change your attacks quick enough. But thats all about your style of pressing it I guess.

Look at ebay, but I dont think you can find them for a cheap price, they are great and rare at the same time, so that makes them expensive. I got mine for $60 and i think it was worth it

Just be careful because supposedly hori doesnt work with all controller converters

EDIT: I know that you just got a n64 system but just know that you cannot use a hori for online play as well.

^ i haven't tried so i can't verify. Actually the problem isn't with the adapter itself, it is a problem with the driver. the hori pad joystick responds differently so the n64 controller drivers make it go haywire. all the buttons register with my mayflash adapter and my adaptoid but the joystick still goes nuts. I'm sure someone could make a driver to support it.

as far as the n64 to gc adapter, i would assume it would have issues with the joystick as well but i'm not sure.

maybe we should contact to the HORI guys, maybe they can give us some help about creating a driver... They said they stopped producing hori minipads long ago so I think there shouldn't be many problems with this (theorically)
