Mysterious Project M Version on a Wii with HBC...

Hello everyone,

So I'm in a bit of a strange predicament, and I was hoping you guys could please offer some assistance?

I've tried booting up Project M through the stage builder, and I get as far as the "Connecting to Wi-Fi" screen, where it gives me the options to 'play, update, about, exit.'

I press play and the screen just goes black and nothing happens.

I'm using a 2 GB SD card with Project M that I received from a very kind friend of mine. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him what version of PM it was (probably 3.0 or below, for non-modded Wii's), and I've got no SD card reader that can check...I can't contact my friend to ask him either, because he has no phone. His parents also don't trust me because I'm a big scary 18-year old =P (whom they haven't had the chance to meet with yet), so I don't have any current method of contacting him, other than weekly meetings.

To make things a bit more difficult, my Wii (version 4.2U) has been modded with the Homebrew Channel (version unknown, my tech-savvy uncle was the one who kindly installed it for me), so I suspect it might be causing the problem. So then I tried booting up PM from the HBC, which shows that it recognizes the data, and I tried running it, only to get the black screen problem again.

Would anyone mind helping me?

(BTW, I've made sure to delete any and all custom stages, and preventing connections to Nintendo Wi-Fi is kind of hard to do these days, since they dropped the internet service for Wii's months ago.)

Thank you very much, in advance.

Why not just put all the files already on the SD card in a folder somewhere and download the HBC version of PM 3.02, put it on the card, and load it that way? If you have HBC installed, there's no reason to use hackless. Even if for some odd reason you still wanted to use hackless, you could do the same thing; put everything already on there in some separate folder, and set up the card using the downloads on the site. I don't really understand the problem. By the way, having or not having the HBC installed could not affect your loading of the game via hackless.

I'm having the same issue for both hbc and hackless versions. I try to update and it won't connect and pressing play goes to black screen. I just downloaded the most recent version from the PM website. Also, pressing ABOUT tells me I'm using an unknown version.
