It is clear that you are new to the game so I will try to help you.

First, don't rely on smashes so much. Smashes are mostly for when you have an opening because of your opponents lag from an attack. In the case of Marth you may be able to combo into it too.

Forward Air more. The f-air is Marth's greatest ally. You literally do it over and over and carry someone across the stage like that. Short hop f-air, land, f-air, f-air, land, f-air, repeat landing and f-air as quickly as possible until it take the opponent off the edge of the stage. After you master that work on using a down air when the opponent is over the edge to spike them. It is hard to do but you can learn it with practice.

Down tilt is good for popping people up into f-airs. Up tilt is also good for that. Get used to doing Marth's tilts because they are very good. Only his forward smash is really worth doing and thats mostly just for when you hit with the tip to finish someone off. You can also finish people with you back and up airs though. Marth has a lot of power when you hit with the tip of his sword.
