Well, I thought that I would write a blog today about my smash career and some of my life that affects being a smash player since I have nothing else to do.
When I first moved to the place that I live now 10 years ago, I wasn't much of a gamer. In fact, I got my first Gameboy aroud a year later when I was like 8. I met my neighbor and he was only a couple years younger than me, so we started to hang out. He had a N64 at the time. Eventually, he has every current generation system in his house. I had nothing at the time, so I would always go over there. Once we started to play video games, I started to like them a lot. We played Zelda, Mario Kart, Mario Party, Banjo-Kazooie, Star Fox 64, and Star Wars Episode 1 Pod-racing. One day, I was looking through his N64 games and I saw a game called Super Smash Bros. I asked him if we could play it. He said we weren't allowed because it was his brothers or something like that. I forget what happens next but eventually we start to play it. We enjoyed it so much. I remember how his older brother did Captain Falcons Up-B grab move and I wondered how he did that. We played that for the next couple years until I got my Gamecube.
On my 11th birthday, I got a Gamecube with Super Mario Sunshine. I loved it. I played it nonstop. Then about a week later, I went to Gamestop for the first time and I saw a couple games I wanted. I saw Luigis Mansion. Then I saw a game called Super Smash Bros. Melee. I immediately got it and started to play it. I showed it to my neighbor and he liked it too at the time. We played that game a lot. Eventually though, he stopped caring for it, but I still continued to play it wven though I had no one to play it with. Maybe like once in a while when I hanged out with my school friends. Then the summer before 7th grade, I was switching schools. I found out that someone else in my neighborhood goes there too. So I met him and started to hang out. He had a group of friends in the neighborhood and introduced me to them. They seemed cool but I would rather hang out with the kid that I went to my new school with. He liked playing Melee too. So we played it sometimes. Life was good. A couple weeks later, he said that he was moving. I was devistated. I found a friend that was my age to hang with and he was moving. So, once he left, I started to hang out with his old group of friends in my neighborhood. We got to be best friends. They all at the time loved playing Melee. We would play that game for hours at a time. One of my friends (Ori) who went to see his cousin during the summer said that he went to a Melee tournament. He said that there were people there who were like amazing at the game. The next summer, he went to another one. Then last winter, around end of February 08, he was heading for another one, only this time, he invited us to come. Almost all of us went to it. We went to the UMB 11 tourney in Ann Arbor. I had a blast. Sure I got completely owned and was brand new to the competitve scene, but I made it past pools. Apparently, that was pretty impressively for a 1st time goer to a tourney. Then at midnight on March 8 (or 9 after 12:01) everything changed.
We all went to the midnight Super Smash Bros. Brawl midnight launch. It was awesome We all got a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the game that we've been waiting for for so long. We spent the whole next day just playing it. We played it and eventually got good. Last summer, my friends were heading to another tournament. But I could not make it since it was my moms birthday. I was upset, especially the fact we did nothing but go to a nice breakfast. Then another one came up, Rofas Midwest Circuit. This tourney was going to be the biggest one of the summer. So Ori, Ham, and I went to it. It was awesome. We spent the whole day splaying brawl then went to Okis house to sleep over for the night. Easily one of the best summer days of last year. In my pool there, I was in the worst match-up. I had SamuraiPanda, Oversworm, and Dr. X. I got owned, but it was still fun. Learning from the best is always good.
My next and final one going to a tourney was the Get Your Game On Tourney last October. That was also really fun. I haven't gone to a tourney in Ann Arbor since. But my friends Ori and Ham have hosted two of them right around our city, so I was able to go to those. The first one was a success. The second was also a success, except the fact that Hams Wii was stolen. (The person who took it didn't even take the cords, its pretty obvious that it was stolen, not accidentally taken.) Oris Naruto Rev. 2 was stolen, and my controller was stolen. All the money we made went to Hams new Wii.
In all, I've been to 6 tournaments since turing a competitve smash player. I always have fun at them even though I get out within the 1st two rounds. But I do improve by a little every time. The people I play right now are Fox, Kirby, Ness, and Toon Link. I can't wait to see how I do at the next tournament I go to.
