My Reflexes and Dodging

Well after all the months of hype and excitement I finally get the game, and I'm loving it! However I've been having a problem. My dodging skills. Something I realized is I'm a terrible dodger, my reflexes are complete crap. I realized that for me to dodge properly I have to think of what my opponent is gonna do before he does it and then dodge it. But this isn't the most helpful thing for me since I can't always focus on every single match ever (but that's another problem). My dodging skills are also inconsistent, some days I'm on point and others I'm not. So does anyone have a solution to my problem? Things I need to work on? Things I need to start doing? Heck is it even my reflexes, is it something more? Just please give me some sort of solution.

Reading your opponent's plans is a good start, and if you get really good at it, can make up for reflexes to a degree. As for daily variance, everyone has their on and off days, so that's natural.

If focus is an issue, assuming you don't have a diagnosed attention disorder (which would present the problem, and possibly the solution, rather simply), I'd suggest trying to play in an environment with fewer distractions. If parts of the game itself are distracting, such as the music, you can change the balance of music, SFX, and voices under options. If it's other things going on nearby, consider changing either the layout of the room (more specifically, where the TV and game system are) or the time/environment you're playing (play when you're more awake, or when people aren't around, etc).

Reactions can be a hard thing to fix, since they aren't necessarily a universal constant in humans, and they naturally slow as you age. It can sometimes help to play less-aggressive characters, as aggression takes far more precise timing than defense tends to.

Lastly, if you're playing online, it's important to know that both your and your opponent's internet will vary slightly throughout the day and across different days. Skipping the technical details, if you notice you lag more at a certain time of day, try playing at a different time. Sometimes it's just your opponent, and you can't do anything about that but find another opponent.

I've had this issue, I've played with friends before, they perfect shield and I'm like "How the hell did you do that?" the only response I get is usually "Instincts" which is as helpful as a mop without a handle. It definitely helps to read your opponent, it will condition you and it will be better in the long run. Exercises can be done to help reflexes though, and it never hurts to practice it, get a good amount of sleep, and eat foods with a lot of energy. That's what helps me, I've had times where I was on an energy crash and I had almost no sleep, it felt like there was an input lag but it was just my reflex speed.

Ok thank you, I really appreciate the advice. I'll try making the adjustments. Also on the focus thing I guess after I play for a longer period of time It gets a bit boring and as such I play worst.

I know that feeling. I find that it helps to take a break for a meal or a round of another game (PC games, board game, whatever). There's nothing wrong with taking breaks (for that matter, it's definitely healthier to take breaks). I do find that it's easier to play for longer periods of time if I'm playing/trading off with friends. It can also be fun to take a break from regular 1v1 play and go screw around in co-op For Glory.
