My LAN adapter is not working

I bought a HDE Ethernet Lan Adapter For Nintendo Wii and its not working. I have checked if everything is plugged in. The Wii u does not recognize the adapter.

Error code : Connect the Wii LAN Adapter to one of the USB ports on the console.

Any ideas?

I think you have to set it up in the options on the Wii U. I truly don't know though.

Yea thats what I did, but i'm trying to set it up and te wii u tells me there is no adapter
