My frank observations about the game

NOTE: Before I humbly start, keep in mind I put a lot of attention into detail, some more than others. This is about the game from my point of view, merely morphed out of opinion, so without further ado, here we go.

  • I noticed the game has been catered to the older generation of Nintendo players, specifically that of the NES generation. We see this in the case of the emphasis put on retro features in the game, not to forget that fact Pacman , Megaman and Duck Hunt Dog were added to the roster, other than Mario and Sonic, were iconic figures of the 80's gaming period.
  • The addition of characters have seemed to cater to that of the Melee fanbase in particular. Most notably the resurrection of Roy and Dr. Mario, as well as the return of Mr. Game and Watch.

  • There are a good number of drop offs in the games stages, particularly to that of the Wii U version. The Xenoblade Chronicles stage, the new Mario Kart stage and Orbital Gate Assault having most notably the most drop offs in the game. If you have Fox's Landmaster out in the midst of these drop offs, there's a good chance a KO to the other player will be made, thanks to the stage design.
  • Now, Sakurai has stated the reason for the Ice Climbers' sudden disappearance was the fact the 3DS' hardware was not able to handle the characters. It could be considered Rosy and Luma are the "Ice Climbers" in this regard, since alike Nana, Luma takes no damage, however also like Nana Luma can be KO'd but will not incur a KO on behalf of Rosalina. So to those upset about the Ice Climbers absence, you could say theoretically Rosalina and Luma are this games version of the Ice Climbers so-to-speak.

  • Clones, I'm particularly iffy about them, but have been working on getting my head around them. It was a last minute decision as I understand that Lucina and Dark Pit were put in there, however, my theory is Kid Icarus Uprising, was partially responsible since the games development took up valuable space for Smash 4's development. Take Brawl for example, Brawl's production began in 2005, three years before the game was released . Had Smash 4 began earlier in 2012, then quite possibly character development would not have had to be rushed, and possibly another Story Mode in the mix.
  • And lastly, Classic Mode. It was one of the first things I looked forward to in playing Smash 4, however I was kinda shocked over the revamped Classic Mode. Master Core is okay, but the heavy gold consumption to play on Intense as well as the change in how the player progresses in the game, to me, were not so desired. Like with Mario Party and coins exchanged for stars, I humbly believe Classic Mode should have stayed untouched, with the exception of Master Core and Master Fortress. That last part will really get your heart going.

There, those are my observations overall about the game. They're fair ones, and I probably could go on further, but don't wanna be a bore. Do I think Pat Cashman and Dean Harrington made better narrators than Xander? Yes. Do I think Steve Malpass makes a much better Fox than Mike West? Yes. But I cannot make these changes, I can only play them as is and hope that something changes with each installment.

Feel free to drop your thoughts, your reflections on my observations and even maybe observations of your own, I'll leave you with a question to ponder though.

I believe there is a difference between being catered to the older generation of players and needing more characters for the roster, Megaman and Pac Man have are not just 80's gaming icons, they still are, after the 80's it's not like everyone forgot about them, also Game & Watch never went anywhere

I never played Pac-Man beyond the classic Pac-Man arcade of Pac-man eating the white balls, hoping not to get attacked by those colorful globs. And I've never played a single Megaman game. So like Shulk, I found out about Megaman's existence through Smash 4.
I'm all for the roster being more diverse, it'd get boring really easily if all there ever were were reappearing fighters.

Hi! Just gonna give my thoughts on your observations.
I noticed the game has been catered to the older generation of Nintendo players, specifically that of the NES generation. We see this in the case of the emphasis put on retro features in the game, not to forget that fact Pacman , Megaman and Duck Hunt Dog were added to the roster, other than Mario and Sonic, were iconic figures of the 80's gaming period.
All smash brother games are giant love letters to all generations of Nintendo from obscure Famicom games to current day. I'm not sure what you mean by retro features. Personally, I believe Duck Hunt was chosen to represent the technology of the light gun. Also Sonic the Hedgehog first released in 1991 and you forgot to mention Ryu, who is an iconic fighting game character.

The addition of characters have seemed to cater to that of the Melee fanbase in particular. Most notably the resurrection of Roy and Dr. Mario, as well as the return of Mr. Game and Watch.
Roy was supposed to be in Brawl however he was scrapped. And Mr. Game & Watch was in Brawl so while he first appeared in Melee, I doubt he was supposed to cater to Melee fans and more showcase Nintendo's first handhelds, the Game and Watches.

There are a good number of drop offs in the games stages, particularly to that of the Wii U version.
Can't you fly? Or do you have to wait until you hit a floor? Because they made it so Ike doesn't die in his Final Smash in Gaur Plains.
Clones, I'm particularly iffy about them, but have been working on getting my head around them. It was a last minute decision as I understand that Lucina and Dark Pit were put in there, however, my theory is Kid Icarus Uprising, was partially responsible since the games development took up valuable space for Smash 4's development. Uh... I'm not sure what you're getting at when you say KI:U stole development time because they started developing Smash 4 a month after KI:U was finished. I just want to mention that characters are chosen at the very beginning of the project and Sakurai did not want to include another Story Mode.
And lastly, Classic Mode. It was one of the first things I looked forward to in playing Smash 4, however I was kinda shocked over the revamped Classic Mode. Master Core is okay, but the heavy gold consumption to play on Intense as well as the change in how the player progresses in the game, to me, were not so desired. That last part will really get your heart going.
Don't worry, in a few days of playing, you won't have to worry about coins. :p

Actually I knew about Game and Watch (I wasn't the least bit surprised when he came back) because he was initially as I recall, a dedication to someone who passed away during the production of Melee.

Probably where I can see where the observations would most confuse people is about my theory with Kid Icaus Uprising. The backbone behind that theory is that, in the time that Sakurai spent developed that game, that time could have been spent working on Smash 4. Given the popularity of the 3DS (although it was a bit questionable at one time) I believe Kid Icarus Uprising could have come at a later time. But again, that's just me. I hope that patched up some confusion.

I've had problems getting the Landmaster to fly. It'll hover from time to time but its mainly a land rover of sorts (now that I think of it, it would be one hell of a final smash to have Fox get in his Arwing and reek havoc on the opponents that way. It is nice though being able to ram people though.

Now I may be wrong, but Brawl did everything it could to get rid of movement options
I guess you're right I forgot it had tripping. Yah **** brawl. But melee had great movement options and mixups. Although correct me if im wrong but brawl still had different canceling options, (like pickachu up-b cancels) and wavedashing?
