Hey guys!
So I've been playing this game with a competitive mindset for about two weeks now and I decided to grind out the tech skill and learn how to play Fox. From what I have seen from the pro scene, he just looks like the most fun and I enjoy the challenge of learning all of the tech skill that is involved in order to get good with him. Anyways, as I have gone through learning the basics, I have run into two things that I found interesting...
First, I can wavedash pretty well and can even waveshine (although not too consistently), but there are times where when I try to waveshine, I end up doing a side+b instead, and then there are times where I'll end up doing the waveshine, but it literally feels no different than when i flubbed up and did a side+b. My controller is a few years old, but considering I did not touch it much until recently, it is in good condition.
Second, I find wavedashing and waveshining to be easier than short-hopping. Don't get me wrong, I CAN short-hop, but standing still I can only do it 8 out of 10 times and when i'm moving around, i'll be lucky to do it 3 out of 10 times. I use the "Y" button to jump if that helps anyone with answers.
All of this leads to my question(s).
Are there controllers out there where I would be able to better tell if my joystick was pointing to the side rather than point at a diagonal or downward direction? If so, links please! If not, then are there drills that can better help with my control over the joystick? I'm tired already of SDing off the side from an accidental side+b. -__- I figure the short-hopping problem is just from a lack of practice and not a controller issue, or at least that is what i hope.
