The biggest general issue in Melee is definitely controllers. Inconsistent analog and build quality definitely plagues the community. If you're looking for something better than what you have now, you could pick up a controller chaos custom or comparison shop different used controllers like armada does. You shouldn't have to be weighed down by your controller if you can avoid it.
