DAY 1
7/18/09 - 1700
Hey guys. It's me... In Japan...
Wait, stop.
I'M IN JAPAN!!! TAKE THAT STEEL (AND/OR RUTGER/ANYONE ELSE PRESENTLY JEALOUS OF ME)!!!!
So the near thirteen hour plane flight was a pain in the ***... Big time.
Some of it went fast, some of it went horrifyingly slow. It definitely helped that Continental was kind enough to give us meals and kick-*** in-flight entertainment.
But enough about that... JAPAN!!! ASFSAFSADSADFSFSAS!!!
So it turns out my uncle (his name's Gary in case any of you were wondering) is married to this pretty Japanese lady named Kazue.
He has a super cute step daughter named Rie. She's pretty cute and twelve years old...
Did I mention she was cute?
へ_へ;;
Well anyway my dad and Gary are out for now along with Kazue at the convenience store (lol). Rie is out... somewhere. >_> My brother is asleep from the plane ride that went to like 2am
EST but about 1pm JST (Japanese Standard Time... I don't care what they call it that's what I'm calling it...).
We nearly got lost on the way back from the air port because Gary literally JUST moved in to his new house which just happens to be out of the way of the rest of the main city parts of the
city.
Anyways when the folks get back we're all going out to dinner at some traditional Japanese restaurant that's supposedly my family's favorite.
Oh and BTW Rutger, anime shows are at least 70-80% accurate... Including general phrases and exclamations.
I don't feel at all comfortable speaking the language (fortunately my uncle is from Texas and his family here know some English) but I understand a bit of it... They say どぞ a lot...
Or is it どうぞ?
Well whatevs. Because of the lack of wireless internet and only one LAN cable I won't be on AIM at all and I'll bo on SWF only to post these journal-type-things in the Zange group.
On that note I would appreciate it if Sasuke would write me a summery of FD for my stage discussion thread.
Again I don't even know if I'll get to post this before I go home so that's why I'm dating it.
So anyway... yeah. Japan... Until you get to the residential area it's a lot like NY...
Also I learned you generally take ¥10、000s out of the ATM. They're apparently as common as twenties are back home.
...
*pauses to think*
1706
1711
*can't really think of anything else important*
Oh yeah. If you have a question you REALLY want to ask me you're better off putting on my wall. I'm probably not gonna have time to check every single group message since my latest
WoT.
2227
Well I just got back from an awesome dinner and a nice walk after a trip to the grocery store.
Jesus there are a lot of cute girls here... Though Rie is still one of the cutest imo.
Gary's pretty cool too. My dad says if I graduate (which I plan on doing... now) I can spend some time in Tokyo with Gary as a graduation present. W00T.
Also I found out that the reason people always speak with such heavy intonation in anime is because that's part of irl Japanese... I think my J key is breaking. T_T
For dinner I had lots of cool Japanese foods. For desert I had CARAMEL CHEESE CAKE. :ろ
Basically my family (at least in Japan) are pretty cool guys and don't afraid of anything.
Anyways it's super fun here and I'm livin' it up. :ろ
...
Seriously, the girls here are freaking cute. >=0
2252
Just got out of the shower...
That shower head is really strong. @_@
I turned it up maybe a fourth of the way and it came out as hard as a regular shower...
Also I forgot to mention earlier but Gary listens almost exclusively to the Grateful Dead.
Apparently he's kept his American roots alive through his narrow taste in music. の_の
Well it's been fun logging this and rubbing the entire trip in Steels face (no hard feelings when I get back I hope =P).
Apparently they're watching Japanese soaps in the other room. Bye bye, guys.
おやすみなさい。
DAY 1- END
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
おはよ!
So I just got up and so far I'm pretty excited about today. Apparently on Sundays people go out on some street and do performances for money.
Also last night I forgot to say but Gary is going to have us do kareokee one of these nights... I can't wait to hear my brother sing. >=)
I just had breakfast and Gary and his family aren't up quite yet. Once they get up we're probably going to discuss what our schedule is for the entire day.
...
Just put on Septette for the Dead Princess.
Still too good.
Does anyone else wonder if the translated song title in Touhoukoumakyou (6) is accurate? It says "Septette for the Dead Queen"...
But I digress, so on to the TV which I watched last night......
Japanese soaps have a wide variety of... themes? I hope that's the right word. Well whatever. There's a wide range of them.
Also Japanese commercials. LOL. They're not any worse than American commercials but they are REALLY silly in a completely different way. I laughed at all of them... and I couldn't even
understand most of it. They were just that silly.
If I had to choose though I might choose Japanese commercials. Even though they are super-special-awesome-ultra silly part of the reason for that is that they are very colorful.
I laughed a couple times during the soap opera as well. Some parts were just silly and then their were a couple jokes I understood.
Like when a bomb went off about 200 yards away from this main character-ish sorta guy and when another cop (the guy was apparently either a cop or a special detective working with the
cops) pulls up to ask him something (probably about the blown up bad guys) he goes "Eh? Nani?" in a really humorous way... it was funny.
I'm thinking about posting this day by day when I get a chance to post it so you can easily pick out separate days to read but I probably won't...
*thinks*
...
Jesus this song is good... SftDP FTW.
Oh yeah. That's another thing. Gary doesn't play games... Apparently he's to busy being on the board of directors or something of some company that does English language testing.
...
I think that's all for now.
Edit: Wow. You were right Karina. The Maid and the Pocket Watch of Blood would work really well for Brawl.
Okay really this time. That's all I have to say right now.
2027
Well I just got back from a day/night out with the folks. Boy did we have a good time. I might forget something but I'll try to tell as much as I can.
Wait hold on I have to shower...
2029
...
2040
'Kay I'm back... They have really nice smelling soap. へ_へ
So anyway my day... Westley style... without the complaining. >_>
First after the girls finally got ready, which happened around twelve, we went to lunch... I was HUNGRY.
We had this awesomer than TL's bair ramen. I had some... D*mn this is fuzzy in my head... ah screw it. I had ramen and so did the rest of us. >____>
Next we went to. . . uh. . . OH YEAH! We went to some main street-like place with asaffsadadsdfdf awesome cute girls. I still think Rie's the cutest though. >=0
I think the street was called Kake****a or something. I know it had け followed by し in the middle. And I'm pretty sure it ended with た.
Despite it being Sunday there were a few girls with uniforms on. I found out from Gary that some students are required to wear their uniforms unless given special permission from a parent.
Obviously you need a good reason too. >.>
Weird.
So yeah, after that we went to... WTF why do I have to think about everything?... after that we went to another street or something. I don't quite remember.
We went to a couple banks to try and get money because my dad didn't have any but his ugly American card was no good there.
We used the "ugly American" J-meme all day.
Did I mention we took the train to the first place? No?
We did.
After getting on the train again we took another trip somewhere else (I'm pretty sure back to Gary's area. That seems likely since we took the bus home) and got dinner... We had this
awesomer than Kirby's bair sushi. We ate all kinds of sushi but my favorite was the octopus (might've been squid) suction-cup-things with egg. Like, mostly uncooked egg. It cooked ON
the suction-cup-things.
. . .
I had some onions with that.
After that we went to KARAOKE!!!
...
Which I suggested last night.
I sang okay. I only sang two songs but we weren't there long.
Since I know at least one person is going to want to know which songs I sang "With a Little Help From My Friends" and "All You Need is Love"
I would've sang a Japanese song but I don't really know anything all that well except maybe Okkusenman and there's no way I was singing that.
Actually we only sang about five Japanese songs... We sang, like, twenty (maybe closer to fifteen) songs overall.
After that we went home because my brother was really tired.
Stupid brother. Rie sings really well but she only sang two songs.![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)
I sing... okay. Not bad but I could sing much better with practice. Even if my voice didn't improve I would still sing much better with practice.
My dad sings pretty well too but he sings all the time so it's nothing special.
Well anyway... I'm gonna watch TV again then go to sleep.
おやすみなさ。
DAY 2- END
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
T_T
I'm up way too early... I'm gonna play some Moemon.
0512
1914
Well I'm back again.
What a full day. '_';
So today we went around to a bunch of shrines and I prayed for good luck in love in one and for the people around me to be happy in another.
Yes, I saw some shrine maidens. Yes they were pretty.
I saw a bajillion more cute girls in the streets today as well. I'll probably just stop saying that. Just assume I see lots of really cute girls every day.
Rie had to study for a test and Kazue had to do shopping and make dinner (which hasn't been served yet) so it was just us four American guys.
So yeah. More fun stuff. I got a couple souvenirs today as well.
Also I don't think I've explained the train yet. Each train runs a single line. It looks like you can't mix and match train cars like they do in NY (do they do that in other places?)
Also there is no turnstile. Instead there's this little blue pad that you hold your card over and it scans the card for you. It scans it in about half a second. You also scan on the way out and it
calculates the fare.
That's all for now. =P
Might write about dinner later...
1923
2104
Dinner was really good. Kazue made something that I don't really know the name of but it was delicious.
After that I sat and had a conversation with the rest of the family. Gary asked me how I knew so much Japanese and I told him the truth: I watch A LOT of anime.
After that Rie listed a few of the anime she heard of:
One Piece
Gundam
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS
Apparently she really likes Spongebob. HELL YEAH 90'S CARTOONS.
Anyway I'm playing Sonic Battle now, which is terrible as a fighting game but I like some parts of it.
DAY 3- END
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
DAY 4
7/21/09 - 2117
Well today was fun.
We went to Asakusa to visit another temple...
After that we went out to dinner with Rie and Kazue at a Korean barbeque place. It was pretty good.
I made a few jokes that were all laughed at by the girls while my brother still decided to hate me and the subjects of my antagonistic actions remained oblivious at first.
That's about it regarding my sight-seeing.
This was a short entry. ._.,
Oh well.
As much as it's awkward to say: I miss you guys quite a bit at the Zange-chan chat group.
おやすみなさい
DAY 4- END

Sorry these logs are missing. My comp shut down but I only had about three lines each anyway. -.-
Edit3: Wow my memory's good. ._.
Also I'll take this time to explain the subway system in detail. Basically you have to scan the back of your card which you can do from about an inch above the scanner.![Stick Out Tongue :p :p](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/tongue.gif)
It also looks like each train has a line it travels and can't be mixed and matched like in NY (how do they do where you guys are from?)
That's about it. Other than that it's the same as NY's subway system... EXCEPT THAT THE TRAINS HAVE A SCHEDULE AND ACTUALLY RUN ON TIME!!! XP
Edit: DAY 6
7/25/09 - 1220
I remembered what we did Thursday.
We took a cable car up a mountain and hiked the other half of the way up which led us through a few shrines. I prayed at the one at the top most one...
I prayed for everyone around me to always be smiling. That would be nice.
After we got to the summit we backtracked to another trail back down the mountain. The other paths were paved or flattened but this one looked completely natural. It was a nice hike.
That's all.
DAY 6 END
Edit2: DAY 5
7/25/09 - 1227
I remembered what we did Wednesday.
We went shopping in some street in front of a temple. We got outfits for the fireworks show we are going to tonight.
I also got to try a sweet that had red bean paste in it. FREAKIN' GOOD STUFF.
After that we took a walk around the outside of the moat of the emperors palace grounds. The palace itself isn't visible from the ground... obviously.
It was built for defense.
That's about it.
Bye bye.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________
DAY 7
7/25/09 - 1207
Writing this from the day after this happened. Fortunately I remember this stuff.
Well anyways today we went around town and saw some cool buildings and went to the Sony building.
After that was the awesome part.
We went to an anime museum entirely about and created by the guy who did the art for Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service.
I got an awesome music box/small model of Kiki looking disappointed at the bread shop counter. :3
They didn't have any Chihiro stuff so Spirited Away must not be getting much hype since it's so old.![Frown :( :(](data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7)

7/26/09
Well, typing this from the plane and it's fairly dark but it looks like the sun is just rising.
Still about 5 hours to landing in Houston. After that a short flight to New York and we're home.
Looking out at the clouds gave me an idea for a story that would work well written or drawn so I might attempt that in the near future.
Yeah there's definitely a light on the horizon.
Speaking of lights, yesterday evening was some awesome Japanese fireworks festival...
Wow the sunrise is just starting actually. I hope it's as pretty as the sunset.
Back to the fireworks. They weren't much better than American fireworks but the finale was something awesome.
Also there were a LOT of pretty Japanese girls in really good looking Yukata. Rie and Kazue were just dressed casually, however.
Jeez this sunrise is really somethin'.
Well that's about it for now. See you in NYC!!!
Well I'm here now... It's good to be home. ^_^
I'll have pics up soon...
