Smash 3DS Multi-cartridge play and how it affects Unlockable content

Playing on the Wii U is simple, if a character is unlocked, it's unlocked. But 3DS multiplayer, for different consoles? Much more interesting. If you really think about how the roster will work with different players having characters unlocked or not, there's 3 possibilities:

1. Only characters you've unlocked, personal roster
2. Only characters all players have unlocked, shared roster with everyone
3. Any characters any players have unlocked, combined roster with everyone

If the multiplayer has to differentiate from single-player mode, what ideas come to mind? The idea of unlocking characters, stages, music, even assist trophies in multiplayer seems interesting.

Eh, this was a thing in Brawl, no? Online: You could only use the characters you had unlocked.

I'm going to guess personal roster. However, if download play like I'm hoping for is available, I can only imagine that the host's content will be used. If they go the MK7 route, then probably only a few characters will be available for use (Mario most likely).

If anything, you'll still get to fight against the characters that you haven't unlocked yet. You just won't have the luxury of using them yourself.

I wonder how versus records will be kept on the 3DS with the online and local play...

Probably the same as replays in Pokemon.

On that topic, I think interactions should be fine, since in Pokemon you can fight any bloody thing even if you haven't found it yourself yet.

Only way to import your saved Mii Moveset into WIi U is by having him on your 3ds.

I kind of assume everyone gets their personal roster, same as Brawl.

Don't forget there's going to be a degree of customisation with the characters on 3DS; it would be a little odd if for multiplayer all the other characters you can't customise yet are available as well.

I'm pretty sure that everyone has their own personal roster. That's the way it was in Brawl and I see no reason to change it.

For multi-card play, however, I think a combined roster is more suitable.

I'm also going to assume that it will be a personal roster. I really wish we'd simply just have all characters available straight out of the box, but we know that's not gonna happen.
