Mother Dream - Vision of the Future?

I tried posting this at GameFAQ's, but apparently there aren't many Mother/EarthBound fans, and the maturity level there is zip, zilch and zero, so.. here goes. Potential spoilers, by the way, just in case I miss anything.

I had a strange dream last night that I saw the update one night, and it had a movie. In it, Mario, Link, Lucas and Flint were fighting. It was pretty surreal, though, and I can remember thinking, 'Hey, awesome! Lucas and Flint!'.

It was just general gameplay video, but the four were fighting in an unannounced stage with dinosaurs in the background. If you've played Mother 3, you might recognize it as the area just shortly after the intro. Or it could've been Lost Underworld, though I doubt it's the latter, since the dinosaurs weren't very big and there weren't enough trees.

Oh, and now that I remember, Lucas would use attacks similar to Ness', but they wouldn't have the same results. The results of PK fire was larger if he charged it, and would sometimes pull in multiple fighters. Also, PK Ground replaced PK Flash, and it released a shockwave that traveled along the ground that did good damage and put other fighters into pits.

Flint didn't really do much with PK, but I did remember him using rope for a variety of things, including tether recovery, his grabs (his down-grab actually hog-tied opponents, stunning them for a few moments to get a good hit or two in with zero knockback - a lot like Yoshi turning opponents into eggs), and I'm assuming some B-moves. But that's all I can really remember.

Anyway, any thoughts?

Having Flint and Lucas would be awesome. I had a similar dream, that they finally confirmed Lucas, but it wasn't nearly as cool as yours. Ha.

I'm all for Mother 3 characters and that seems like an intense dream. Although, I would like to see Ness return. I just love Earthbound so much, I don't want him to leave.

Yeah. It was quite a bit like the videos that show up on Melee with random fighters attacking each other on a random stage, except the camera didn't zoom in to showcase one of the four characters after a few seconds. It was pretty interesting, really, and I'm glad I remembered what I did. I'm pretty sure there was more to it, but all that on the first post was all I could remember, unfortunately.

Nice to know, Polaris. Personally, I want Ness to stay, too.

I had a dream too! That Poo, the martial arts master of Earthbound, was in Brawl as a playable character.

Poo would be interesting. I think Jeff would make a great candidate for a Mother rep, too.

Poo would be awesome, but I think Jeff would bring more interesting techniques to Brawl. He doesn't have PSI, but he had those Bottle Rockets and crazy inventions. I'm all for Jeff.

I'd love for either Giygas or Pokey to appear as a Boss. Even in the Spider Mech or that chamber he's in for Mother 3.

I'd imagine that Heavily Armed Pokey might be a boss. Giygas is just too.. ehh.. all-consuming, really. It'd be a pretty difficult challenge for most characters to attack something while being constantly assaulted by PK attacks. So, honestly, I can see Heavily Armed Pokey working better.

But I'm willing to bet that it'll wind up being a Mother 3 oriented boss.

As for Jeff, yeah. He'll probably bring a bit more to the table. There's only so much PK that can be used before it starts to look like a copy, and to be honest, Jeff slinging bottlerockets, throwing bombs and firing lasers would be pretty cool.

I still think Giygas would be awesome. Fighting (well basically) the sky and the air around you just sounds like it'd be crazy.

If they do add some Mother stuff characters/stages/etc., I'm hoping that'll mean the game will be available stateside. It happened with Fire Emblem, why not Earthbound? I still have yet to play Mother 3 and I'm incredibly anxious for anything Mother coming to the U.S. Smash Bros. is really the only way for EB/Mother fans to really get a game.

Ah well. I'm all for Ness/Lucas/Flint/Jeff, whoever. Even Everdred. Whoever it is, I'll be happy. ^_^

Dunno, man, but the dream made me think a bit more into just what sort of things they could change on Ness/Lucas, and certainly makes Flint a reality.

At any rate, Polaris, I'm sure they'll add plenty more Mother-related stuff. Look at the Franklin Badge. Frankly, I think that's just the tip of the iceburg.

Well, Mother 2 is probably out since sakurai always intended to replace 2 with 3. Lucas will probably replace Ness if you look at the evidance. Ness was only in any of the games, because 3 took so long to come out. Sakurai was even holding off putting Ness in the game cuz he wanted Lucas. Lucas wins. Hopefully he will be tomorrow's update.

I believe that they should add Lucas. A lot of people mentioned that he was supposed to be the Earthbound rep but was replaced by Ness, which I also heard before. I've never played any Earthbound game, so it wouldn't matter much to me. As long as they have a good moveset, I'll be happy.

I sincerely hope that Ness returns, as he's one of my favorites from the original 64 version as well as Melee. That being said, Lucas I'm sure would have a very similar feel to him as Ness (Not exact mind you), and really either of their inclusions would make me happy.
We can be certain that there will be at least one MOTHER rep, considering Sakurai has not only shown interest in it, but he has also shown us the Franklin Badge.

Which, by the way, was a fantastic idea on his part considering that the Franklin badge is in both MOTHER 2 and 3, keeping the guessing games going.

On the subject of your dream, having Lucas AND Flint in the game would rock. The movesets that you provided are even fantastic, and I'd certainly enjoy the level as well.
I wish I could dream up stuff like that. XD

Thanks. I don't normally dream up stuff like that, and I don't often remember them, but that one really stuck out at me. I got it typed down as soon as I could.

Also, I doubt they'll completely toss Ness out. Lucas is a sure-fire candidate, simply because he's Mother 3's protagonist, but.. can we really consider him the ONLY protagonist? Many other characters, like Salsa and Flint are also protagonists, with their own chapters. Heck, we might even see Lucas fight alongside Boney just to give the character a twist that seperates him from the others.

In addition, I suggested a while ago on another forum that Lucas use musical attacks to emulate the battle style in Mother 3, where if you pressed the A button in time with the music, you'd do extra damage. How that would work out, I have no idea, but I'm sure it could emulate well with throws, which often do multiple hits.

Just a few ideas about Lucas, anyway.

Well, yeah. Jeff isn't particularly 'out there' in terms of character design, but compared to most of the others in Mother 2, Jeff is the only one who uses weapons that're out of the ordinary. Emulating some of his tools, lasers, and bottle rockets would be easy. I'd love to see a down-throw that would have Jeff use the Hungry HP Sucker to absorb tack on a few percent of damage on the enemy and lower your percentage by a like amount.

Or the Shield Killer, which could have a high chance of smashing a opponent's shield completely, while if it doesn't, it just heavily damages it (making it smaller and making the opponent more vulnerable).

Lots of great ideas for Jeff, really.

Could happen. Claus might get in as a boss, but I wouldn't bet the farm on his inclusion as a playable character.

Yeah, whenever I've got a good dream that I can actually remember, I typically write it down as well. XD
Lucas and Boney would be awesome, since many people are speculating that the IceClimbers will not be returning to the game, we need some sort of team battlers.
Lucas was the focus of the majority of MOTHER 3, but like you said there were plenty of other heroes that could easily fill his shoes as well. The game only has two monkies as it is, we need more Salsa!

'The Masked Man' would be great, for reasons I don't have to go into.
Heck, any new reps from any of the MOTHER games would be fantastic. Jeff definitely has many gadgets that would opt for an awesome moveset.
I also hope that Ness will return, and I'm fairly confident that he will, what with him being an original smasher and all.

I just hope Sakurai doesn't keep us hanging for too much longer!
