Besides Melee.

This thread is either based on opinions or fact. I don't for sure which one it is, but anyways, here you post about what you think is the most competitive game besides Melee.

Personally, I think a shooter being played on multiplayer with four players and all "cheap" items set off makes for good competitive play. I hear that Halo is the most competitive shooter, so this probably takes the cake.

Mario Kart's advanced techniques also add to the game, although probably not very competitive.

So, post your opinions, or if there is one game that it is fact that it is most competitive, tell me what it is and this thread can be closed.

(I did use the search feature)

oh yeah tekken, thats big too

I did what you said...

Merciful mungbeans! That looks like an exciting and awesome game. Extremely competitive-looking, as well.
its a good game, but the competitive area of it involves only about 3 characters out of the biggest roster ive ever seen in a fighting game, god tier is evident

To be honest there's a ton of games that could be amazing competitively. However, since they aren't very popular, or don't have any background of ever being competitive, they are often ignored. (Competitively at least) Not to mention the amount of games that can be created within games with lots of customization. (if that even made any sense)

I guess here's some examples off the top of my head, though there's far more:

Mario Kart DS (maybe even Mario Kart 64)
Elite Beat Agents
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle Certain aspects of Metal Arms: Glitch in the System
Worms Armageddon (Due to the amount of total customization of the game, everything from designing your own weapons to creating specific schemes, a fully competitive game could potentially come out)
Game speed-runs
Hell, even certain aspects of World of Warcraft. (a race to level 80 when Wotlk comes out, a race to defeat the endgame boss, etc.)

I guess this isn't really a list of best competitive games ever, more of a pointless rant. But to fulfill the thread's purpose:

Starcraft seems like the best contender. It has almost unlimited depth, not to mention the downloadable map editors. That allows customization of certain parts of the game which might be weaker than others in terms of balance.

You gotta give it to starcraft. Considering how long it's been out, it's amazing how large the competitive community still is.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (racing)
Sorry, but no. If you're talking about the action race part, it's pretty much first to 40 rings wins, then they get the special attack, then the other guy's pretty much screwed unless the guy in the lead screws up. If you're both using one of the secret characters, I think it's a bit more balanced, but the game generally suffers from a fairly bad slippery slope problem. If you could disable special attacks and make the homing attack not target the opponent, I'd say it then has a MUCH larger chance of being competitive. The snowboard race is fun, though. I think Sonic 2 did the multiplayer best; being the fastest doesn't necessarily mean you win, it's really how you play overall that counts. Now if only you could disable teleports...

The battle parts aren't as bad (everything is dodgeable, I think), and I don't really care for competitive treasure hunting. Besides, you might be lucky enough to get one of the shards right next to you and the other guy can't do squat about it. I'd like to see competitive Chao Karate just for the heck of it, though :p

I'd agree with Starcraft. I mean, if all of South Korea plays it, it must be really competitive. I'd also say Call of Duty and CS:S can be quite competitive as well.

How come nobody said Madden? There were even TV shows showing tournaments... if that isn't competitive, I don't know what is...
Also Soccom Navy Seals.

Obviously the most competitive game is Chess.

But in all seriousness it's Monopoly.

Or maybe Poker.... Oh I'm sorry are we speaking Vidya Games? Well then it has to be Starcraft, there are secret underground bases in South Korea where thousands of nerds train non-stop for Starcraft tournaments.

Does Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine count? Competition can get pretty intense at times.

Failing that, Pokemon or Starcraft.

Starcraft is the national sport of South Korea, so that makes perfect sense.
