Hello, everybody! It's no secret that Montana as a whole has been devoid of any sort of legitimate scene, lacking presence and any sort of history outside of the small scenes within the state itself. Well, I've got some great news for Montana Smashers, and out-of-staters willing to show their support for this new and developing scene! The four 'core' fight game scenes in the state are banding together to host what we are going to dub the Montana All-State Seasonals. Missoula, Kalispell, Bozeman, and Billings are all pulling their efforts together in order to create the definitive scene for the state of Montana; a true first for us Montanans. Street Fighter, Injustice, Marvel, and of course Smash. We've got the communities in state coming together, and are hoping that with enough support, we can make our humble beginning worth being a part of! Even Eastern Washington's scene has given us a small shower of support, and we think that it's time to bring our presence to Smashboards to let you guys know that Montana's on the map. Our plan is to have four major events, once every three months. A Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter event, alternating in location between Missoula and Bozeman (the largest and center-most of our 'core' cities). We'd have Smash up on the board as a main event (whether it be Melee, PM, Brawl, or 64), and plenty of other titles having a major presence as well. We'd have brackets, with prize money on the line, with streaming and hype to go around. We've even got our first event planned out! The weekend of April 11th, with Bozeman's scene hosting us this month.
That's right, April 11th and 12th, at MSU's Hivemind LAN parth, and in Bozeman's own Rook's Comics and Games, Montana's fight scene will hold its first-ever All-State Seasonal, dubbed 'Spring Scuffle 2014'. Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, and Kalispell are all coming together for the first time to bring our Street Fighter, Marvel, Injustice, and of course SMASH players all to one place. Is money an issue for you? Well, we understand that, and one of our goals for these All-State games is to be as affordable as possible (outside of travel, of course). There will be no venue fee, free entry for doubles on Friday, and $5 entry for all singles events on Saturday. With new developments, we're having a change of Saturday's venue to MSU's Ballroom A, which means CASH PRIZES. You heard it here, third place gets $5, and 2nd/1st will get a split as evenly as possible between 30/70 of the pool.
Anyway, tl;dr: Montana's come together for the first time to truly develop its scene. We'd appreciate any show of support that Smashers could offer, whether it's 'good luck, have fun', or even coming over to throw down! We understand that we've been a dead zone in the national presence, but our goal is to put ourselves on the map, and offer players a beautiful place to come, and an exciting and enthusiastic new scene just waiting to get rolling!
Also, be sure to get in touch with our individual cities through Facebook in case you were interested in helping the state's scene develop! We'd sure appreciate any sort of support, be it wishes of good luck or something as big as attending in the future.
