monitoring play time

So I was wondering how long I had played Smash since I got it. The Records in Vault tell me 35 hours with 17 spent in battles. But Activity Log (3DS app) told me 40 hours.
1.) which one is right? What causes the difference?
2.) Is 50% of my play time really in menus and crap?

Also: 20 hours with demo. Wish I could transfer those records to the game too but whatever.

I think the play time recorded in the Vault counts the time you had the game in sleep mode too, while the Activity Log app doesn't.

This happened to me with Mario & Luigi Dream Team as well. The game told me I played for 50+ hours, but the Activity Log app says I only played it for 30ish.

Btw, I already have 50ish hours played + 20 hours with the demo. What am I doing to my life D:
