He has probably done that for most models.

Then he'd give them a little polishing...

Now that you mention it, didn't Aonuma send Sakurai the Zelda models for Brawl?

Link looks like a direct port from Brawl in the 3DS version(from what little we can see of him up-close), but in the Wii U version he looks like a totally different person.

Most of the stages look ripped straight from the 3DS games they're based on. Even Spirit Tracks is DS quality graphics instead of being updated. Makes me worried about the chances for GB era stages.

The characters look fine.

And I honestly love how they will keep the art style of certain handheld games (like spirit tracks) the same as the game it originated from.
It feels a lot more of a nod to the series and game itself :).

Lying about my country.
I doubt any of the character models are ripped from other games. Used as a base or as a guide, maybe, but I really don't think they'd just rip them and port into the game right away.

Especially Pokémon models. On X and Y there's like, a max of six of those stuff rendered at once plus a very simplistic background, and it lags like crazy even in 2D mode, and Smash needs Pokémon models to be as simple as possible so they can exist at the same time as fighters without bringing down the framerate.

Pokémon X & Y were very poorly optimized, which is why it lags so bad. Kid Icarus: Uprising and KH3D had much more going on and never lagged, so I'm sure it won't be an issue with Smash.

I'm pretty sure they're imported. SSB4 Samus is essentially Other M Samus with added bells and whistles, for example. You can save a lot of resources by borrowing assets from developers without having to make one from scratch.

The Wii U models seem mostly built from the ground up to me, with one or two exceptions, but the 3DS models definitely have some importing going on in some cases.

For a more in depth look, here's the "Brawl VS Smash 4 Graphics comparison" thread. It's not nearly complete, but we have a good selection of characters here.

Hey, that's my thread! Cool!
Anyways, sorry for the drought recently, I've had trouble finding time. I'll try to put up one more character tonight.

Naturally, I think they port as much as they can - it takes a lot less time.

It seems apparent that most of the Brawl Pokemon are ported; not sure about the rest, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Most of them are directly taken from older games (on Pokemon Stadium 2 at least.) The Dugtrio on the ground/rock transformaiton of the stage is just the N64 model using the same exact animations.
