Miyamoto just said 10 minutes ago on a LIVE Spike interview:

"I cannot say anything about characters because we will be revealing more later today. (Well, at least that's what the translator said)"

What? Really? Please be true :D.

Edit: It was just said Nintendo will be making more new announcements (Not mandatorily Smash related) throughout the day, one is coming in about 10 minutes!

The actual quote was.

Spike Interviewer asked Miyamoto if any of his favorite Nintendo or Third party characters were going to be in the game and he reponded:

"We will have some announcement of characters later today so I cannot say just yet".

He was then asked:

Are there going to be many third party characters?

Miyamoto:

"Yes! There is Megaman!"

So apparently this was their first announcement...

This is getting kind of lame...

On the Smash Bros website there's a big blank spot next to Pit and under Fox.
Just the right size for a newcomer reveal or two more veterans.

There was a spot big enough for one veteran before Wii Fit Trainer was released, too. Sadly I don't think that it means much. They're just placing the newcomers on the front page as they arrive.
